BASE | Grizzlies split second doubleheader with Fort Hays

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A 9-7 game-one win guaranteed at least a season-opening split here at Mountain Lion Park on Saturday afternoon as the Grizzlies dropped game two, 19-7 to finish the weekend 2-2.
 
Game 1: Adams State 9, Fort Hays 7
The Grizzlies scored the first three runs of the game in the first two innings including a two-run double from Matt Bathauer before the Tigers rallied for six straight runs to give them a 6-3 advantage heading to the bottom of the third.
 
Adams State countered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third, including a two-run home run from Nolan Marthaler to make the score 6-6.
 
Both teams took the fourth inning off before the Tigers scored a single run in the fifth, while the Grizzlies scored three for the win.
 
Game 2: Fort Hays 19, Adams State 7
Fort Hays scored 12 runs in the eighth inning and beat Adams State University 19-7.
 
The Grizzlies rallied with four runs in their half of the seventh inning to tie the score. Paul Giglio had an RBI base hit to score Zachary Davidson. Matt Bathauer, who finished with three hits, drove home two runs with another single, and Alex Milone scored the tying run on a throwing error.
 
The Tigers' Isaiah Ural, who had two hits and five RBIs, started the eighth inning with a two-run home run. Elliott Herrmann and Mikey Felton also added round-trippers.
 
Davidson had two hits in four trips to the plate. Ty Addington pitched four innings four ASU and struck out five. Nate Pitts pitched five innings for the Tigers and allowed four hits.
 
Up Next
The Grizzlies will return to action on Friday, Feb. 10 when they travel to Weatherford, Okla. to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State University in non-conference action. They will play a four-game series with single nine-inning games on Friday and Sunday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
