TF | Grizzlies open 2023 Bryan Clay in fast fashion

AZUZA, Calif. – The 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational has provided some solid times for the Adams State University Grizzly Track and Field Teams on Saturday here at the Cougar Athletic Stadium.
 
Thursday
Thursday saw the Grizzlies open up action in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Sophomore Ava O'Connor was the top Grizzly in the stacked race of 120 runners in over seven heats. O'Connor finished with a time of 10:07.96. The time was nearly 53 seconds faster than her time posted at the CSU Pueblo Spank Blasing Invitational less than a month ago.
 
Junior Morgan Hykes posted a time of 10:24.94 to finish in 37th place with a provisional mark. Sophomore Emily Schoellkopf was just three seconds behind Hykes with a provisional time of 10:27.10.
 
Sophomore Erin Stonebarger posted a provisional time of 10:42.26 to finish in 67th place.
 
On the men's side, senior Clement Duigou was the top Grizzly in the event with a time of 8:56.34. He finished in 33rd place out of 132 runners. Junior James Dunne finished in 47th place with a time of 9:01.55.
 
In the 10,000-meter Invite race, sophomore Brianna Robles was the top Grizzly across the line as she finished in 33:11.64 for a tenth-place finish. Junior Precious Robinson finished in 13th place with a time of 33:54.15.
 
On the men's side, junior Cameron Allan finished in 11 th place just ahead of teammate junior Awet Beraki who finished in tenth place. The two finished in 28:37.09 and 28:42.09, respectively.
 
In the second invite l portion of the 10,000-meter race, sophomore Reina Paredes, finished in fifth place while sophomore Amalia Dorian finished in 23rd place. They posted times of 34:00.79 and 36:09.22, respectively.
 
On the men's side, senior Aron Orar won the race of 21 runners with a time of 29:24:54. Sophomore Yonas Haile finished in tenth place just ahead of junior Dayton Brown in 11 th place. The two posted times of 29:45.08 and 29:51.18, respectively.
 
Friday
Friday started with the open 10,000-meter run where sophomore Elijah De La Cerda finished 29th on a field of 73 runners with a time of 30:12.12
 
On the women's side in the open 5,000-meter, Stonebarger finished in 12th place with a time of 17:18.19. There were 100 runners in this race.
 
In a stacked open 800-meter run, freshman Lieke Hoogsteen finished in 63 rd place out of 129 runners with a time of 2:09.31. Junior Rachel O'Brien finished in 85th place with a time of 2:10.57, sophomore Jessica Simon finished in 89th place with a time of 2:10.74 and junior Nicole Lawrence rounded out the finishers with a time of 2:13.70.
 
Saturday
Jonah Vigil gave a great effort in the men's 400 meters.
 
Vigil got off the blocks to build the momentum to finish eighth overall with a time of 47.30. Vigil also stepped back on the track to compete in the men's 200 meters and finished 13th overall with a time of 21.29.
 
Jessica Simon ran an efficient race in the women's 400 meters as she finished 65th overall with a time of 57.55.
 
Alese Sartain ran well in the women's 100 meters as she finished 46th with a time of 12.29. Sartain later stepped back on the track to compete in the women's 200 meters and finished 62nd with a time of 25.09.
 
Papay Glaywulu had a great finish in the men's triple jump as he finished first overall with a jump of 15.89 meters.
 
Ava O'Connor ran an impressive in the women's 1500 meters and finished 65th overall and ran a time of 4:20.04. Lieke Hoogsteen  showed great effort as she finished 130th and ran an impressive time as she clocked 4:27.03. Maggie McCleskey also competed in this event and 151th ( 4:31.48) followed by Nicole Lawrence in 160th (4:36.06).
 
Rachel O'Brien competed in the open race of the women's 1500 meters and finished at the 37th place with a time of 4:30.94
 
Miguel Coca  stepped on the track again after running an impressive run the night before in the men's 5,000 meters. Coca competed well in the men's 1500 meters as he finished 61st with a time of  3:43.38. Davonte Jett-Reynolds and David Cardenas pushed each other every step until they reached the finish line. Jett-Reynolds finished 130th with a time of 3:47.95 and Cardenas finished 125th with a time of 3:47.91.

 The final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational is Saturday, April 15, 2023, with a full day of track and field events scheduled for competition in Azusa.
