ALAMOSA, Colo. – Looking to build on a season that saw the Adams State University Grizzlies get two big wins including a huge win over a conference rival, the football team will open up the 2023 season on Saturday night when they host the NCAA-transitioning Lincoln (Calif.) Outlanders with kickoff slated for 6:00 p.m. inside Rex Stadium.
The Grizzlies garnered 21 points and were picked to finish in ninth place in the preseason Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) after finishing 2-9 overall and 2-7 in the RMAC.
The Grizzlies, under the direction of third-year head coach
Jarrell Harrison, are set to be led by
Marckell Grayson at the quarterback position while senior
Daylen Boddie returns as the starting running back. The Grizzlies do return some stellar starters at the wide receiver position as senior
Tracey Reynolds,
Kentrell Petite and
Quinlin Bisbee all have experience under their belt.
On the defensive side, WIlliami Schaumkel,
Edward McClendon,
Tommy Lujan and
Daniel Mendoza and
Ramon Ortega will anchor a defensive that has upgraded its anti-air capabilities.
Zachary Survillas returns as the kicker for the Grizzlies as the senior returns after missing a majority of last season to injury.
The Grizzlies will be taking on Lincoln (Calif.) who dropped their season-opener to the College of Idaho Yotes, 37-7. They were only able to score one touchdown, a 32-yard pass play, with just more than 2:07 remaining in the first half.
