ALAMOSA, Colo. — The women's volleyball team will start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play on Saturday, Sept. 16. The first game of conference play will be at home as Adams State hosts New Mexico Highlands University at 7:00 pm in Plachy Hall.
New Mexico Highlands Preview
Historically the Grizzlies are up 24-7 against the Cowgirls and have won 12 of the 15 games at home. The Cowgirls are currently 1-8 on the season and have a home match against CSU Pueblo on Friday night, prior to coming to Alamosa.
Head coach Tom Duke begins his 9th season at the Helm of the New Mexico Highlands University volleyball team. He led the cowgirls to the RMAC playoff berths in 2004, 2005 and 2021. Duke played collegiately at the University of Southern California where he was the National Player of the Year in 1988 and a three-time All-American.
Adams State Looking Up
The Adams State squad enters the game looking to snap a four-game losing streak as they dropped all four games at the DoubleTree by Hilton Maverick Fall Classic in Grand Junction last week.
Adams State went 1-3 in the Brikare Lady Buff Classic in Canyon, Texas a couple of weeks ago that included a three-set loss to No. 1 ranked West Texas A&M. They did face Dallas Baptist University, who was receiving votes at the time.
Next Week's Matchups
Following the home game on Saturday, the women's volleyball team will be back on the road to face Colorado State Pueblo, South Dakota Mines, and Black Hills State University. The Grizzlies have the edge on all of these teams historically though, having records of 22-10, 6-3, and 8-3 respectfully.
