Salt Lake City – Adams State (4-12, 2-5 RMAC) took on Westminster (7-7, 3-3 RMAC) on Friday evening in a closely contested match at Behnken Field House but ultimately fell short in three tightly contested sets: 21-25, 27-29, 28-30.
Despite the sweep, Adams State displayed resilience throughout the match, pushing Westminster to the limit in the second and third sets. Cindy Garcia led the Grizzlies with 12 kills and a .429 hitting percentage, while Anna Huggins contributed 11 kills and 12 digs. Hadleigh Richardson also made her presence felt, hitting .444 with eight kills.
The first set saw Westminster edge out the Grizzlies 25-21, but the second set turned into a marathon with multiple lead changes and ties. Adams State fought valiantly, but Westminster eked out a 29-27 victory. The final set followed a similar script, with Westminster narrowly taking it 30-28 to complete the sweep.
Despite the loss, the Grizzlies' offense hit a solid .200 with 46 kills and 43 assists, while defensively, they registered 54 digs. Key players like Remi Vargas, who tallied 17 assists and four digs, and Katie Bauer, who added five kills and two blocks, contributed in key moments but could not stave off Westminster's attack.
Westminster was led by Claire Cook, who recorded 16 kills and hit .364. They edged Adams State slightly in attack percentage, hitting .213 for the match.
Adams State looks to bounce back when they face Colorado Mesa on the road Saturday at 4 p.m.
