Adams State Looks to Challenge Colorado School of Mines

Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State will face a tough challenge against Colorado School of Mines in their upcoming RMAC matchup. The Orediggers, currently 5-1 (3-1 RMAC), boasts a powerful offense that averages 32.5 points per game and has outscored opponents 195-111 through six games.  

Colorado School of Mines comes into this matchup with one of the most balanced offenses in the conference, averaging 436.2 yards of total offense per game. At the helm is quarterback Evan Foster, who has thrown for 1,671 and 13 touchdowns with a completion rate of 68%. Foster's favorite targets include receivers Flynn Schiele and Max McLeod. Schiele, who is averaging 114.8 yards per game, and McLeod, with 109.3 yards per game, have accounted for 12 of Foster's 13 touchdown passes​. In the backfield, running back Landon Walker is another piece of the Orediggers' offensive arsenal, rushing for 502 yards and 9 touchdowns, averaging 6.7 yards per carry​. 

On defense, they have only allowed 313.2 yards per game, with a third-down stop rate of 37.5%​. Led by linebacker Jaden Healy, who has 33 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss​. The defense has applied consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks with 8 sacks on the season.

Adams State, meanwhile, has struggled through a difficult season, having been outscored by a significant margin, 321-73, over six games. The Grizzlies' offense, which averages just 214.7 yards per game, has struggled to find consistency, particularly in the passing game. Quarterback Chase Nelson has thrown for 660 yards and 4 touchdowns in five games, but he has also thrown 5 interceptions​. His top target has been running back Ahmare Merrida, who leads the team in both rushing and receiving, with 244 rushing yards and 125 receiving yards​. 

Defensively, Adams State has faced challenges in stopping opponents, allowing an average of 537.5 total yards and 53.5 points per game. The Grizzlies' run defense has been particularly susceptible, giving up 285.5 rushing yards per game. Linebacker Seth Shaw leads the defense with 42 total tackles but will need help to slow down Mines' potent attack.

The Grizzlies will face off with the Orediggers tomorrow at Rex Stadium at 1 p.m. as they look to secure their first win of the season.
