Grand Junction, CO—The Adams State Grizzlies demonstrated impressive effort and competitiveness during the Maverick Invite #2 held on April 14th at the CMU Track & Field Complex in Grand Junction, CO.
John Hochanadel placed sixth in the men's hammer throw event with a distance of 48.32 meters. Hochanadel achieved a distance of 43.20 meters in the men's discus event earning him a fourth place finish.
In the men's discus event,
Donovan Capes achieved a distance of 38.94 meters, placing him in 10th position. Brandon Bennet, threw a distance of 31.71 meters, securing 15th place in the competition.
In the men's shot put event,
Donovan Capes and Brandon Bennet represented Adams State.
Donovan Capes, achieved a mark of 13.86 meters (45 feet 5.75 inches), placing him in 9th position. Brandon Bennet recorded a mark of 11.52 meters (37 feet 9.5 inches) in the competition.
Tyman Smart from Adams State, competing as a sophomore, completed the men's 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:54.34.
In the men's 1500 meters, Adams State had two athletes competing.
Carmelo Corral, secured second place with a time of 4:03.49.
Kailer Smith finished in fourth place with a time 4:07.56.
In the men's 400 meters, Adams State had three athletes competing.
Caleb Bafukila, a freshman, clinched the top spot for Adams State with a time of 51.33 seconds in heat 1.
Ja'Warren Smith, finished in fourth place in heat 2 with a time of 49.08.
Elijah Hatcher, also competed in heat 2 and secured sixth place with a time of 50.21 seconds.
Brandon Guzman of Adams State finished in sixteenth place with a time of 23.60 seconds.
In the men's 400-meter hurdles,
Neveh Jones represented Adams State and secured second place in the event, with a time of 53.41 seconds.
In the women's 200 meters,
Isila Apkup from Adams State finished in fourth place with a time of 24.36 seconds.
Alena Chaney finished in fourth place in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.29 seconds.
In the women's long jump, Alena Chaney from Adams State, competing as a junior, achieved a mark of 5.50 meters (18 feet 0.5 inches) and
Avery Palmgren achieved a distance of 5.47 meters (17 feet 11.5 inches).
In the women's 4 x 400 meters relay, the Adams State "A" team consisting of
Alese Sartain,
Isila Apkup,
Jessica Simon, and
Victoria Amiadamen achieved first place with an impressive time of 3 minutes, 42.38 seconds.
In the women's 1500 meters,
Nicole Lawrence finished with an impressive time of 4:31.63. Additionally,
Haley Harkrider, secured fourth place with a time of 4:50.00.
In the women's javelin event, Lauren O'Campo from Adams State, competing as a freshman, achieved a mark of 39.84 meters (130 feet 9 inches), securing second place. Additionally, Liana Fernandez, also from Adams State and competing as a freshman, achieved a distance of 34.24 meters (112 feet 4 inches) in the javelin, placing her in seventh position in the competition.
