Alamosa, Colo. – Adams State Grizzly football will host CSU-Pueblo in Alamosa for Homecoming this weekend, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. at Rex Field as the Grizzlies seek their first win of the season.
Adams State has struggled on both sides of the ball, averaging just 274.3 yards of total offense per game while allowing 502 yards per game on defense.
Key players for the Grizzlies include quarterback Chase Nelson, who has passed for 516 yards. Nelson is 49-for-96 with four touchdown passes and four interceptions, and has gained 59 yards rushing. He is averaging 191.7 yards of total offense per game.
The Grizzlies' ground game is led by AJ Merrida, who has gained 84 yards on 31 carries, while Daylen Boddie has rushed for 58 yards and scored both of ASU's rushing touchdowns during the first two games of the season. Nelson's top target has been Kevin Johnson, who has caught 14 passes for 142 yards, averaging 10.1 yards per catch, with two touchdowns on the season.
On defense, the Grizzlies are paced by defensive back Seth Shaw, who has recorded 21 tackles, including 11 solo stops. Linebackers Joshua Sparks and Seth Moss have added 19 and 16 tackles, respectively. Moss also has a sack and two tackles for loss.
Adams State has blocked a league-high two kicks and ranks fifth in the conference in both kickoff returns and punt returns, averaging 19.7 and 8.0 yards per return.
CSU-Pueblo, meanwhile, has been dominant, averaging 33.5 points per game while holding opponents to 16.8. Led by quarterback Devin Larsen, who has thrown for 1,253 yards and 11 touchdowns, the ThunderWolves' offense will be a significant challenge for the Grizzlies' defense.
