NEW ORLEANS – The Adams State women's cross country team has once again proven its excellence in both academics and athletics, earning its 10th NCAA Division II National Scholar Team of the Year honor. The Grizzlies were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Thursday after placing six athletes on the Division II All-Academic Team. The men's team also excelled in the classroom, with four student-athletes earning All-Academic recognition.
Adams State, which posted a cumulative team GPA of 3.63, captured the 2024 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championship title in Sacramento, California. This latest honor adds to the program's legacy, with previous Scholar Team of the Year awards in 2022, 2021, 2019, 2017, 2015, 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006.
To qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top 30% of their respective regional championship meet, among other criteria.
Six Grizzlies earned spots on the All-Academic Team: Elena Carey (MBA), Katie Hughes (MBA), Maggie McCleskey (biology), Morgan O'Keefe (MBA), Precious Robinson (MBA) and Emily Schoellkopf (MBA).
On the men's side, Julian Campos (business administration), Housem Hrabi (kinesiology), Romain Legendre (MBA) and Juan Rosales (sociology) were named to the 2024 Men's All-Academic Team.
