Indianapolis, Ind. – Adams State men's wrestling will send six wrestlers into day two of the 46th annual Midwest Classic, highlighted by quarterfinal appearances from Isaiah Gamez and Aaden Valdez.

At 125 pounds, Gamez advanced to the quarterfinals after a dominant opening day. The 2024 Midwest Classic runner-up opened the tournament with a lightning-fast fall in just 0:24, followed by another pin at the 1:37 mark in round two. He capped the day with an 8–1 decision in round three to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.

Valdez will also wrestle in the quarterfinals at 157 pounds. He began his run with a 17–1 technical fall in round one before earning a hard-fought 6–3 decision in round two.

At 141 pounds, Kieran Thompson cruised through the first two rounds with a major decision and a fall before dropping a tight 3–2 decision in round three to move into the consolation bracket. Thompson stayed alive with an 11–3 decision to advance to day two.

Angel Flores followed a similar path at 149 pounds, rolling through the opening two rounds before suffering a 9–5 decision in round three. Flores responded with a 5–3 win in the next round to keep his tournament run alive.

At 165 pounds, Malachi Rider rebounded after dropping his opening match, stringing together a decision and a major decision to punch his ticket to day two.

Ben Tonnessen rounded out the Grizzlies advancing at 197 pounds. After winning his opening bout, Tonnessen fell by major decision in round two before bouncing back with a win in the consolation bracket to move on.

The Grizzlies will continue competition tomorrow at one of the nation's most prestigious wrestling tournaments.
