MLAX| Grizzlies fall to Tars 14-9

Box Score WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 21,2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies kicked off their four game road trip in Florida Saturday with a game against the Rollins College Tars. Going into this game, the Tars were on a four- game losing streak, but the Grizzlies were unable to give them their fifth consecutive loss.

The Tars struck first with Jack Vonarb netting the first goal of the game at 11:21 to put Rollins up 1-0. Vonarb's goal was quickly answered by teammate Nicholas Schultz giving the Tars a 2-0 at 10:16. With four more Rollin's goals to follow, the Tars gave themselves a 6-0 lead over the Grizzlies until Josh Peterman was able to break the 6-0 run, with ASU's first goal at 3:45. The first quarter would end with the score at 6-1.

The Grizzlies started off the second quarter with a quick goal from Tanner Jones just fourty- two seconds from the start to give the Grizzlies their second goal of the game. Rollins would then take a cross- checking penalty that would afford ASU an extra man opportunity, that would see Peterman net the man- up goal to cut the Tars' lead in half. The Tars would go on to score two more to bring the score to 8-3, giving Rollins a five- goal cushion.

However, with 5:09 left in the half, Montana Giffen would net the Grizzlies' fourth goal of the game, once again cutting Rollin's lead in half.  Danny Mayes would find the back of the net shortly after at 3:14 to make the score 8-5.

Rollins would then net the last goal of the half with just thirty- one seconds left to make the score 9-5.

The third quarter would see Carter Buell draw the first blood of the second half at 12:25 to give give the Tars a 10-5 lead.

Mayes would score again at 4:18 to counteract Buell's goal, and bring the score to 10-6 late in the third.

To end the third quarter, Rollins would again score the last goal at 2:28 to put the Tars up 11-6, heading into the last stanza of the contest. The Tars would go on to add two more points, but Jamison Bobo would find the net with 4:29 left off of an Alex Gaskill assist to make the score 13-7.

Mayes would add two to the score two more goals coming at 3:48, and again at 3:36 off of a Peterman assist. This goal was a man- up opportunity, as Rollins drew an illegal procedure goal.
With the score now 13-9, Rollins' Morgan Baker would score the last goal of the contest  off of a Vonarb assist at 1:52 to make the final score 14-9.

Mayes led the Grizzlies with four goals, while Peterman netted two, with Jones and Giffen each netting one a piece.

"Another slow start was the difference for us yet again, they're killing us and we can't continue to have to play catch up every game.  Aside from the flat start, we played decent, still a little inconsistent but overall not too bad.  We can say we traveled for 15 hours the day before, and that we're not used to the climate but at the end of the day, they're just excuses and none of that matters.  I'm pleased we didn't give up and continued to compete, but we just need to be ready to play when the game starts, not when its ten or twenty minutes in." Said Head Coach Jason Levesque after the match up.

Adams State will next be in action Sunday against Florida Southern College at 3 p.m. Eastern time.
