Box Score SAINT LEO, Fla. (March 24, 2015)—In the third game of their Sunshine State road trip, the Adams State University Grizzlies took on the Saint Leo University Lions on Tuesday evening.
Saint Leo got the game started with Dylan Yonts netting the first goal of the contest at 11:30. With 5:42 left in the first quarter,
Danny Mayes put the Grizzlies on the board to tie the game up 1-1. Shortly after that, the Lions' Jake Gilmour gave Saint Leo a 2-1 lead.
Yonts would put the Lions up 3-1, but a goal by
John Beedle with twenty nine seconds left would cut the lead to one. The Lions would net a last second goal with sixteen seconds on the clock to make the score 4-2 heading into the second quarter.
Mayes would start the second quarter off with a goal at 14:27 to bring the Grizzlies back within one. However, Yonts would counteract that goal at 12:50 and put the Grizzlies back down by two. Late into the quarter,
Josh Peterman would net his first of the game off an assist by
Seth Stowell at 3:34. But keeping up with the fast pace scoring, Saint Leo would score two more to put the score at 7-4 heading into the half.
The third quarter saw the Lions' net four unanswered goals and hold the Grizzlies to no goal, to make the score 11-4 heading into the last quarter of the game.
The last quarter of the game was different as Mayes found the back of the net to give the Grizzlies their fifth goal of the game. Saint Leo would net two more to put the score at 13-5, but Peterman would net his second goal of the game to give ASU their sixth and final goal of the game. The Lions would go on to score three more to bring the game to a close at 16-6.
"I think the guys really played hard, however our game management and decision making at times really cost us, especially in the second and third quarters. Playing our third game in four days, the guys battled but just didn't have enough. We didn't make enough plays. A few more shots on cage, some better decision making and some more hustle plays and we allow ourselves to stay within striking distance. Unfortunately we just let it get away and the teams we play on our schedule, they'll make you pay. Credit to Saint Leo because they made us pay for those miscues" Said Head Coach Jason Levesque after the game.
"All we can do now is focus on continuing to play hard, intense lacrosse against a very talented Tampa team who is nationally ranked and played in the final four last season. We're going to have our hands full, hopefully we can rise to the occasion for a full 60 minutes."Adams State wraps up their road trip Thursday, March 26 as they take on the University of Tampa at 7:00 pm (Central)
