Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. (May 2nd, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzly Men's Lacrosse team faced off against the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves tonight at Rex Stadium in their final game of the season. The Grizzlies were able to capitalize on the home field advantage and end the season with a 10-9 win.
The first quarter saw
John Beedle net the first goal of the game at 12:19 to put ASU up by one. However, CSUP got that one back and tied the game up 1-1 at 11:16. The ThunderWolves would then receive a penalty that would allow
Josh Peterman, off of an assist by Montana Giffin, to capitalize and score his first of the game at 9:28. The Grizzlies would get the lead back at 2-1.
Peterman would then net his second of his game at 5:45 to give Adams State a two goal lead at 3-1. With just 1:39 left to go in the quarter,
Joseph Guenther (assist Beedle) would find the net and increase the Grizzlies' lead to 4-1.
Jamison Bobo would then score a last second goal with just forty-four seconds on the clock to give ASU a four goal cushion heading into the second quarter, but the ThunderWolves would sneak one more in before time expired to cut the lead down to three at 5-2.
To start the second quarter, CSUP would get the first two goals and decrease the Grizzly lead down to one. Not to be deterred,
Seth Stowell would find the net for his first of the game at 8:35 to put ASU up 6-4. Stowell would then score his second of the game at 3:05 and put the Grizzlies up 7-4.
The ThunderWolves would end the quarter with two more quick goals to once again decrease the Adams State lead down to one. The score would be 7-6 heading into halftime.
The third quarter was a battle, as both teams were able to assert a strong defense and offense. Goalie
Alec Hamlin was able to stop the four shots that CSUP fired off. Adams State was also only able to get four shots off, but with 19 seconds left on the clock, Beedle broke through and scored his second of the game to put the Grizzlies up 8-6 to end the quarter.
The final quarter of the contest started off with
Tanner Jones netting his first of the game at 13:23 to give ASU a three goal cushion. However, CSUP would get two back and create another close moment in the game with the score 9-8 with 8:03 left to go.
With just 4:34 left in the game, the ThunderWolves tied the game up at 9-9, but Jones would find the net for his second and the game winner at 1:56.
After the win, Head Coach
Jason Levesque said, "What a game for our seniors to cap their careers with. While the play was a little sloppy from both teams, I think both teams really competed hard from start to finish. Coach Blair and his staff are doing a great job over there at Pueblo and gave our guys all they could handle. I'm very proud of the boys digging in and battling our way to a win, especially our upperclassmen and seniors in particular who lead the way."
Adams State ends their season 4-11 (3-3 WILA). The leading scorers of the season were
