ALAMOSA, Colo. (September 9, 2015) -- Adams State University has brought on new assistant coach
Ken Carter. Not to be confused with the subject of the film, Coach Carter starring Samuel L. Jackson, of the same name. Like most coaches he began as a player. And Carter even got the opportunity to play professionally. He has played basketball professionally on five of the seven continents and even as a Harlem Globetrotter.
After retiring from playing the game he began his coaching career in Germany. He later arrived back in the States in New York at Suny Canton University where he coached the NCAA Division III Kangaroos. That year the Roo's closed things on a high note ripping off a four-game winning streak to close out the 2012-2013 season.
He relocated to Colorado to coach for Colorado Northwestern Community College where he held the position of Assistant Head Coach for the men's basketball program. Carter also held the position of Interim Head Coach of the Lady Spartans basketball team during his time at CNCC.
The following year Carter left Colorado for the Lone Star state. Last season
Ken Carter was an assistant coach at Kilgore University. At Kilgore he helped lead the Rangers to a 21-9 record. That was good enough to get them into the Region XIV tournament where the Rangers fell to Coastal Bend College, 58-52. During his time at Kilgore, Ken coached Jonathan Milligan and Bakari Copeland, two first team All-Conference selections.
This year Carter brings all that experience to the table for the Grizzlies who advanced into the RMAC Shootout semifinals a season ago as a seventh seed. After upsetting Colorado School of Mines, the Grizzlies fell to the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (UCCS) who ended up winning it all.
