Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. (September 18, 2015)—In their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) game, the Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team was on the road against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls earlier this evening. Continuing on their strong start of the 2015 campaign, the Grizzlies remain undefeated as they ended today's contest in a 0-0 draw.
The first period of the game saw the Grizzlies go out strong with back- to- back shots on the Cowgirl net by
Dezirae Armijo and
Kendall Weld just seconds apart. The first period would see Adams State get five shots, while NMHU would manage to get six.
Shelby McBain would tally a defensive save.
The Cowgirls would fire off the first shot of the second period, but
Molly O'Connor would continue her stellar goaltending streak and would make the save. In the forty- sixth minute of the game, NMHU would incur a yellow card. McBain would try to get the Grizzlies on the board, but the shot would be saved by Cowgirls' goaltender Ashlyn Bruin. Highlands would get a shot off right after, but it would be wide right of the net.
Armijo would get the opportunity to break the scoring drought with a corner kick followed by a shot right after, but it would be high.
Elaine Van de Wille would get a chance, but her shot would end up being wide left. The second period would see Adams State fire off four shots, with the Cowgirls also shooting four.
With each team being held scoreless in regulation play, the first overtime period started off with a corner kick by Grizzlies'
Arin Seidlitz. Highlands would strike back, but the shot would be wide right of ASU's net. The Cowgirls would fight hard, but thanks to O'Connor, and a defensive save by
Elizabeth Anderson, the game would head in to a second overtime.
With the second overtime starting out with another corner kick for the Grizzlies, Adams State would dominate with shots from
Carissa Sidor,
Courtney Miknis, Armijo, and
Sloan Foster. Unfortunately, it wouldn't be enough as a tough Highlands defense would hold the Grizzlies scoreless.
Overall, Adams State would tally 16 shots, with eight of those being on net. O'Connor would face nine of the Cowgirls' 20 shots, and would make seven saves.
The Grizzlies remain undefeated on the season, and will take to the pitch next against Colorado State University-Pueblo on Sunday, September 20
