MBB | Chadron State & Regis University Preview

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January, 28 2016) - This weekend, Adams State University remains home for a pair of conference games. The Grizzlies open things up against Chadron State College on Friday then follow with a game against Regis University on Saturday night. Action starts at 7:30 pm for both tilts.

Last Time Out
The Grizzlies (8-10,7-6 RMAC) welcomed New Mexico Highlands University to Plachy Hall on Friday. Despite strong efforts from Shakir Smith and Kendyl Grover the Grizzlies were unable to overcome the Cowboys falling, 100-91. ASU's Smith and NMHU's Kendrick Nichols went head-to-head as each posted 34 points on the night. Highlands also saw a 29-point performance from Jonathon Mines and a double-double from Marlon Johnson.

ASU followed that with a win against Western New Mexico University. The Grizzlies came out in the first half and put up 53 points by shooting 62.5 percent from the field. Bryan Umoru started off hot, posting 12 of his 14 points during the opening stanza. Adams State's went into remission in the second half, dropping to a 35.5 field goal shooting percentage. The halt in production allowed the Mustangs to reenter the game and keep things close. The Grizzlies battled back in the final minutes to reclaim the lead with 91 seconds to play, closing out with 9 unanswered points to seal the victory, 94-88. Stepping up as of late has been senior forward Kendyl Grover. On Saturday, Grover posted a team leading 15 rebounds and was tied for second on the team with 13 points. It marked his second double-double in as many weeks.

About Chadron State College (6-11, 4-9 RMAC)
The Eagles went 6-16 in the conference last year. This year they are on pace to finish slightly better and are making strides though still residing at the bottom of the Rocky Division of the RMAC. Chadron leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game largely due to Davonte McCallam's 103 total boards and Jay Feltson's team leading 32 offensive rebounds. The Eagles had dropped five straight before cleansing their palette with a win against Westminster College. They will, however, come to Alamosa on a low note having dropped their last game to Colorado Mesa University, 85-72.

About Regis University (7-12, 5-8 RMAC)
The Rangers have also had their share of problems this year with one game separating them from Chadron State at the bottom of the Rocky Division. Regis is currently staring down the business end of a five-game skid with their last defeat coming against Westminster, 72-62.The Rangers have proven themselves quite adept at picking pockets, as they average 7.8 steals per game which leads the conference.
