Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. (January 9, 2016) — The Adams State University Grizzlies lost on the road
Saturday in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match-up against the Colorado Christian University Cougars, in which the Grizzlies were unable to overcome a tough Cougar offense in an 80-69 loss.
The game drops Adams State to a 2-10 record overall and 1-8 in the Mountain Division of the RMAC. The Grizzlies have now dropped five consecutive games. The Cougars have now won six straight games and improve their overall record to 10-3 while being 7-2 in RMAC.
Offensively ASU was led by
Lena Jaycox who scored 19 points against the Cougars. For the second night in a row Jaycox was extremely potent from beyond the three point line and converted 5-11 shots from downtown. Spanning back to the Grizzlies December 18 showdown against Western State, Jaycox is on a string of sublime performances. In six straight games Jaycox has scored in the double-digit margin and has proved to be one of Head Coach
Larry Joe Hunt's most consistent offensive weapons. She also posted a game-high four steals. Junior guard Deshea Wilkes chipped in 16 points in
tonight's game while guard
Cydney McHenry posted 15 points as well.
Adams State was unable to find a defensive answer for the entire CCU offense. The Cougars had five players score in double figures on the night as Chandler Sturms led the team with a game-high 20 point performance. The Cougars was able to use fluid offensive attack to amass as much as 20 point lead. Cougar center Ali Meyer nearly out rebounded the entire Adams State team with her 16 rebounds.
Both team combined for 60 turnovers in
Saturday's game. ASU was able to exploit this flaw in CCU's attack and convert 24 points off of turnovers. Adams State will now prepare next for an away match-up against Westminster College on
