ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 7th, 2016) – The Adams State University women's basketball team hits the road this weekend for a pair of RMAC games. They will play Western State Colorado University on Friday at 5:30pm and Colorado Mesa University on Saturday at 5:30pm. The Grizzlies come into the weekend with a 1-5 overall record and a 0-2 RMAC record.

The Grizzlies lost a pair of hard fought home games last weekend against New Mexico Highlands and No. 12 ranked CSU-Pueblo. In the game against Highlands, freshman,
Brianna Reyna shined with a career high, 16 points. Reyna also recorded 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Maddy Merschel added 13 points and 5 rebounds as well. The Grizzlies shot a solid 87.5% from the charity stripe. Highland's Shania Ratliff and Ari Baca combined for 38 points and 9 rebounds. The Cowgirls got the final say with a 77-62 win.
Against No. 12 CSU-Pueblo, the Grizzlies kept it within 10 for most of the 3rd and trailed 43-33 entering the 4th. Unfortunately, the 4th would slip away as the ThunderWolves increased the lead to 20 on their way to a 61-45 win. The ThunderWolves are now 8-0 and ranked No. 8 in the nation.
About Western State:
The Mountaineers also have a 1-5, 0-2 RMAC record. Their lone win comes from a November 26
th win over Bethany College by a 68-55 score. Most recently, they lost to Colorado Mesa 42-71 at home, and lost to Westminster 45-55 on the road. Harlie Williams leads the Mountaineers in scoring with 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She has also made 17 three pointers on the season.
Last Meeting: The Grizzlies and Mountaineers met twice last season, with Adams State winning both. In fact, the wins over Western accounted for 66% of all Grizzly wins last season. The Grizzlies won 71-65 on December 18
th, 2015 and won 68-64 on February 13

Cydney McHenry and freshman guard
Arianna Barnes was just enough to carry Adams State University over long-time rival Western State Colorado University. The duo of McHenry and Barnes combined for 41 points and helped seal the victory over the visiting Mountaineers on Senior Night. With the win, the Grizzlies snapped their fourteen-game consecutive losing streak within the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
About Colorado Mesa: The Mavericks are 5-1 on the year and 2-0 in the RMAC. The team has actually not lost a game to any team in the country, with their only loss coming from Simon Fraser University of Canada. They have also posted an impressive 3-0 record against Western State already this season having played them twice in a tournament and once in the regular season. Most recently, the Mavericks defeated Westminster 77-61 in Salt Lake City. The team is led by Bryanna Adams with 14.8 points a game and 5.8 rebounds a game. Adams has shot 48% from 3 this season.
Last Meeting: The teams only met one time last season, which ended in an easy 82-49 victory for Mesa. The Grizzlies were unable to find a defensive answer for CMU junior guard Bryanna Adams. Adams was responsible for 23 points off of 7-16 shooting from the field and 6-14 from beyond the three point line. Adams scored 20 of 23 points in the first half of regulation. The Maverick bench chipped in 42 points in the contest, more than half of the entire points scored throughout the game. Combined with a solid defensive game plan that limited the Grizzlies to just 18 points in the second half.

th at 5:30pm, and Westminster on December 16
th at 1:00pm.
