Shakir Smith has been named to the All-RMAC First Team. Smith was a Second Team selection a season ago. Also earning recognition is fellow senior
Kendyl Grover who was named All-RMAC Honorable Mention.
The Tucson, Arizona, native shined throughout the 2015-16 campaign and led Adams State University in over 20 statistical categories. Through 27 games, he has boasted a 40 percent shooting clip from three-point range while also shooting 86 percent from the free throw line. He picked up an ASU career-high 39 points on Nov. 28
th against Rocky Mountain College. The prolific scorer has registered a total of five 30-plus point games while surpassing 20 or more points in 11 contests. Smith was nearly unstoppable in a pair of games in early February against Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. During that two-game span, he shot 10-of-13 from three en route to averaging 19 points per game.Â
Entering Tuesday's RMAC Tournament quarterfinal game, Smith has tallied 964 career points for the Green & White. His award bookends his senior season as Smith was also named to the Preseason All-RMAC squad.
Grover has held steady as the go-to post player for ASU as the Highlands Ranch, Colorado, native has pulled down a team-best 7.3 rebounds per game. Grover is tied for second on the team in scoring at 11.2 points per contest but holds a commanding team lead with five double-doubles. He has notched a season-best 21 points in games against Colorado Mesa University and Chadron State College. In two seasons with ASU, Grover has posted 367 career points and 249 career rebounds.
All major awards and All-RMAC First and Second Teams were voted on by the league's 16 head coaches. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players. All players who received at least one First Team vote or two Second Team votes earned Honorable Mention.
