WBB| South Dakota Mines & Black Hills State Preview

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 10th, 2017) – The Adams State University women's basketball team returns home this weekend to take on a pair of South Dakota schools. Friday night, the Grizzlies host the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology at 5:30pm. On Saturday at 5:30pm, the team will play Black Hills State University.

Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies are coming off of their 10th straight loss entering the weekend. Losses nine and ten came in a big way last week at the hands of Metro State and UCCS. The Metro loss saw Adams State set a new season high for turnovers in a game as the Grizzlies were routed 80-38.

About The South Dakota School of Mines:
Neither of this weekend's opponents are atop the conference by any means, and could provide Adams with a favorable matchup to get the season's first RMAC win. The Hardrockers come in at 6-9, (4-6 RMAC). While not the most dominating team, they have been very competitive lately as they took No. 9 CSU-Pueblo to the wire in a 66-64 loss. That loss marks their only one in the last four games. The team is only 2-4 on the road this season. The Hardrockers will be led by their 6'1 center, Megan Rohrer. The Greenwood Village, Colorado native is averaging 9.7 points per game, has 93 total rebounds, and 23 blocks on the season. Expect to see a lot of substitutions from SDSM as they have eight players that average 5.9 points or better.

Last Meeting: The Grizzlies and the Hardrockers met once last season. South Dakota School of Mines would win that one 58-43 on February 6th, 2016 in Rapid City. Adams State had three offensive players score in the double digit margins. A lack of offensive production on behalf of the Grizzlies in the first half ultimately tilted the momentum of the game in favor of the Hardrockers and in result proved to be the biggest factor in the Grizzlies' thirteenth consecutive conference loss of last season.

About Black Hills State:
The Yellow Jackets come in at a mere 4-10, (4-6 RMAC) having only won in conference. Shockingly enough, Black Hills State also took No. 9 CSU-Pueblo to the wire in their last game, losing 88-87. Despite starting the year 0-7, the team is 4-3 ever since. Black Hills will rely heavily on their defense who have 139 steals and 35 blocks. Offensively, no one averages double digit points, however, they do have seven girls who average over 7 points per game.

Last Meeting: Black Hills State gave Adams State one of the worst beatings of last season, with BHSU winning 75-30 on February 5th, 2016 in Spearfish, South Dakota.
In that one, the Grizzlies committed a season-high 39 turnovers which translated into 44 points for Black Hills. The Grizzlies were unable to find a defensive answer to the BHSU trio of Bailey Kusser, Kelly Bertram, and Kassidy Scott. Kusser paced the Yellow Jackets with 14 points scored offensively while Bertram and Scott scored 12 and 11 points, respectively. BHSU's bench played an instrumental role in Friday's victory as the bench cashed in half of the entire points the Yellow Jackets put up on the scoreboard.  In comparison, ASU's bench added five points.

Looking Ahead: The Grizzlies will be back at it next weekend as they play host to Chadron State on Friday (1/20) at 5:30pm and Regis University on Saturday (1/21) at 5:30pm.
