ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 25th, 2017) – The Adams State University women's basketball team seeks to avoid breaking the losing streak record of last year's team against Colorado Mines. Last season the team had a 14 game losing streak from December 18
th – February 13
th ending with a 68-64 win over Western State. The Grizzlies are similarly on a 14 game losing streak and aim to snap it on the road this Saturday in Golden.
Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies played pretty good games last weekend for three quarters. One unproductive period in each game doomed Adams for the remainder of the contests. On Friday, Adams lost to Chadron State 78-66. On Saturday, an evenly matched game with No. 25 Regis University slipped away when the Grizzlies were only able to manage 4 points in the third period. Regis prevailed 56-45.
About Colorado Mines:
The Orediggers sit near the middle of the pack in Division II women's basketball at 12-11, 8-6 in the RMAC. The team has won three out of their last four games. The one loss of that stretch came to No. 7 ranked CSU-Pueblo on January 21
st by a score of 83-74. The Orediggers share the ball pretty well and have four girls who average double digit points a game. The notable point about them however, is that they do not sub much. This could leave them fatigued if Adams is able to rotate a lot of fresh bodies. Even though they get their points in many different places, Emily Bailey should be the top scorer to shut down with a 13.4 point average.
Last Meeting: The Grizzlies played against Colorado Mines twice last season, losing both. On December 12
th, 2015 in Alamosa the Orediggers won 78-62 amidst Courtney Martin's 12 points and 3 blocks for the visitors.
Johnette Brown led the Grizzlies with 10 points that night. On January 8
th, 2016 the Grizzlies were unable to hold of Mines once again, losing 75-66. On that night, the Grizzlies were led by
Lena Jaycox who posted 21 points in 28 minutes of play. All of Jaycox's points came from behind the three point line as she converted 7-12 of all her shots from behind the arc. ASU got a solid performance from
Lauren McDonald who chipped in 10 points in tonight's affair.
Cydney McHenry led the team with 5 total assists.
Looking Ahead: After Colorado Mines, the Grizzlies travel to CSU-Pueblo to take on the 19-0, No. 4 ranked ThunderWolves.
