Grizzlies Conclude Season with Senior Day at Home

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State Women's soccer team will have their final two games of the season this weekend at home. The Grizzlies will face off with New Mexico Highlands University and Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Grizzlies are currently 2-13 overall and 1-10 in conference play.

The Grizzlies will be honoring five seniors on Saturday, Oct. 27 against the Thunderwolves at 1:30 p.m. The five seniors being honored prior to kickoff are Hannah Call, Carly Kading, Valentina Loza, Kendall Weld, and Natalie Wheelock.

The Grizzlies fell short in both their games last week by two total goals. Against the Mavericks of Colorado Mesa, the Grizzlies defense played well. The lone goal in the 83rd minute by the Mavericks would cap a 1-0 victory for the Mavericks. Four Grizzlies had at least one shot for the game. Corri Zaiger finished the game with eight saves.

The Grizzlies then matched up with the Mountaineers of Western State University. Both teams shot the ball well with 20 combined total shots on goal and 37 total shots. The Mountaineers would take the lead into halftime with a goal in the 41st minute. The Grizzlies answered back after a Diana Cerillo deflected shot off the crossbar found Victoria Sanchez for the equalizer. A corner kick in the 81st minute led to an Ingrid Alvarez goal to put the Mountaineers on top and give them the win.

Scouting the Cowgirls
The Grizzlies will face the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls on Thursday, Oct. 25 in a conference matchup. The Cowgirls have struggled this season compiling a 1-12-1 overall record with a 1-9-1 record during conference play. The Cowgirls have scored 13 total goals on the year while allowing 44. Alondra G-ceballos and Nitza Rodriguez have both scored three goals for the Cowgirls while combining for 34 shots. Breanna Fatten has tallied 34 shots alone. Karina Vega will most likely do the goalkeeping duties for the Cowgirls. Vega has the Cowgirls lone win this season. The Grizzlies and Cowgirls will play at the ASU Soccer Field at 3 p.m.

Scouting the Thunderwolves
The Thunderwolves are 7-5-3 overall this season and 4-5-2 in conference play. The Thunderwolves offense is averaging 1.67 goals per game while allowing 1.53 goals per game. It seems as if the Thunderwolves are comfortable away from home posting a 5-2 record in away games. Laikyn Koss and Mackenzie Bean are the offensive catalysts. Koss and Bean have scored 13 of the 25 goals scored this season with 98 total shots combined. Rylie Martin has posted a 7-4 record as goalkeeper for the Thunderwolves this season. Martin has 63 saves on the year
