WSOC | Grizzlies Face Top Teams at Home This Weekend

ALAMOSA, Colo. - The Adams State University Women's soccer team will be put to the test as they prepare with two of the top teams in the Rocky mountain Athletic Conference this weekend. The Grizzlies will face Metropolitan State University od Denver on Friday, Oct. 5 and University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Sunday, Oct. 7.  The Grizzlies dropped both of their games this past weekend to CCU, 2-1, and Colorado School of Mines, 4-0.

During their matchup with CCU, the Grizzlies offense was shutout in the first half. CCU got on the board early taking a 1-0 lead that would remain until the second half. CCU added to their lead in the 58th minute to increase their lead to two. Diana Cerillo scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season late in the game, but the Cougars held on for the victory.

The Grizzlies lost to Colorado School of Mines, 4-0, on Sunday to drop their record to 1-4 in conference play and 2-7 overall. Colorado School of Mines had an astounding 34 shots in the game and a school record 19 corner kicks. The first place Cougars dominated both sides of the ball as they shut out Adams State for the second time this season. The Grizzlies offense only produced three total shots.

Scouting the Roadrunners
The Grizzlies will face the MSU Denver on Friday, Oct. 5 in a conference matchup. The Roadrunners are 4-2 in conference play putting them in fourth place in the RMAC. The Roadrunners have impressive wins this season over Texas A&M University-Commerce and Colorado State-Pueblo. Reigna Banks leads the RMAC in goals with nine. Banks is averaging over one goal per game this season. The Roadrunners also have the RMAC leader in assists in Jessica Mooney who has six assists this season. Goalkeeper, Erica Torres, has played every minute for the Roadrunners this season cumulating five shutouts and only allowing eight goals in nine games. The Grizzlies and Roadrunners will face off on Friday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. at ASU Soccer Field.

Scouting the Mountain Lions
The Mountain Lions are currently tied for first place in the conference with a 6-0 record. The offense is led by Tarah Patterson and Tori Maydew. The duo has combined for twelve goals this season putting them both in the top three in the conference. The Mountain Lions lead the conference in goals with 27. The Mountain Lions defense has held opponents to five goals. Goalkeeper, Kaylyn Smith, is limiting opposing offenses to 0.50 goals per game. The Grizzlies and Mountain Lions will matchup on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. at ASU Soccer Field.
