Grizzlies Close Out Three-Game Homestand Against Rockhurst

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's basketball will close out the home part of its schedule for the 2018 calendar year this Wednesday as they get set for a non-conference bout against a familiar foe.
 
OPPONENT: Rockhurst Hawks (4-5, 1-1 GLVC)

WHEN: Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 – 2 p.m.

WHERE: Alamosa, Colo. – Plachy Hall Gymnasium

Tip-Off
• The Grizzlies enter their midweek tilt with an overall record of 1-6, while siting 1-4 in the RMAC. They will look to snap a four-game losing streak when they square off with the Hawks for the second this season.
• This past weekend, Adams State fell to a pair of RMAC foes from the north in Black Hills State and South Dakota School of Mines. Against the Yellow Jackets, the Grizzlies slow start set them back in a 76-51 loss. Their 52-46 loss to the Hardrockers was the lowest point total they have had this season.
• The Grizzlies have already met earlier this season back on Nov. 9. The two teams battled the whole way but the Hawks held on for an 82-79 two overtime win to spoil the Grizzlies season opener.
• Adams State will hit the road one last time in 2018 after finishing up its three-game home stint. The Grizzlies will head to Missouri Western to take on the Griffons on Dec. 30.

Adams State Breakdown
• The Grizzlies are averaging 59.9 points per game on a 38.3 shooting percentage in seven games played this season.
• Defensively, Adams State allowing the opposition to score 67.3 points per contest. They are holding opponents to 38.7% shooting which is sixth in the RMAC. They are third in the conference in three-point field percentage at 29.1%.
• The Grizzlies are also one of the best free throw shooting teams in the conference as they rank third at 73.1%. They are also third in rebounds averaging 39.6 per contest.
Stephanie Ruiz continues to lead the way in scoring for Adams State as she ranks third in the RMAC with an average of 17.6 points per game. She shoots 41% on average per game which is 12th in the conference.
• Ruiz is also one of the top three-point shooters in the RMAC at 31.7% ranking her fourth. Her average of 2.9 made triples per game is third in the RMAC as well.
Ki'asha Harris and Brooke Neal lead Adams State in rebounding with both players averaging over six per game. Harris pulls down an average of 6.6 boards, while Neal is at 6.1. Harris' marks ranks tied for 14th in the RMAC, while Neal stands alone at 20th. Neal is also the team's second leading scorer at 8.7 points per game.
• The guard play of Marshell Hollins as helped her become the Grizzlies leader in assists. She averages 3.3 per game and is ranked 10th in the RMAC. She has 23 total assists on the year in seven games played.
• protecting the rim for Adams State are Maddie Dorris and Lowendie Laporal. Both forwards have seven blocks on the season and are tied for the team lead averaging 1.0 per game. Their average is tied for ninth in the RMAC.
• Hollins, Neal, and Ruiz all are averaging just over one steal per game. Hollins is the team leader at 1.4, while Neal and Ruiz are right behind her at 1.3 apiece. All three rank in the top-25 in the conference. Ruiz also leads the RMAC in minutes played per game at 35.9.

Scouting Rockhurst
• Rockhurst enters the Wednesday match-up with a 4-5 overall record and is 1-1 in GLVC play. The Hawks are coming off an 89-55 road loss to No. 6 Fort Hays State this past Monday, Dec. 17.
• The Hawks are currently on a three-game losing streak but will look to end their skid and get the season sweep over the Grizzlies. The Hawks are just 1-3 on the road this season.
• Offensively, Rockhurst averages 70.9 points per game and is shooting an average of 42.6% from the floor. They also shoot the deep ball well averaging 40.4% from three-point range.
• On the defensive end, the Hawks allow 72.9 points per game to their opposition. Opponents also shoot an average of 41.6% against them.
• Three players are averaging double figure points for Rockhurst, led by Madeline Ronshausen at 16.3 points per game. Marisa Lowe is second at 11.8, while Lauren Krissman is third at 10.6. Krissman averages a 51.4 shooting percentage to lead the team.
• Rachel Holden leads the Hawks in rebounds averaging 4.0 per game. Right behind her is Tracy Monahan at 3.8 boards per contest. Krissman is third for the Hawks at 3.7.
• Ronshausen facilitates the Rockhurst offense as she is also leads the way in assists. She has 24 on the season and averages 2.7 per game. Claire Rose is second on the team averaging 1.7 per game.
• Holden is Rockhurst's rim protector with an average eof 1.2 blocks per game. She has 11 total blocks in nine games played.
• Krissman and Monahan lead the defense in steals at 11 and 10, respectively. Krissman averages 1.2 steals per game, while Monahan is right behind her at 1.1.

• The Grizzlies close out the 2018 calendar year on the road. They will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. To take on the Griffons of Missouri Western on Dec. 30. Tip-off is set for 12 p.m.
