Box Score ALAMOSA – In a high scoring affair, the Adams State University women's basketball team (5-14, 3-14 RMAC) defeated New Mexico Highlands University (4-18, 2-15 RMAC) by a score of 88-57 Saturday night in Plachy Hall.
It was game that featured hard-nosed defense and electrifying shooting from Adams State. The Grizzlies shot an incredible 54 percent from the field, while going 11-of-21 from beyond the arc. Adams held New Mexico Highlands to less than 41 percent shooting for the game.
Lejla Hadzialijagic led the Grizzlies to victory shooting eight-of-ten from the field while, scoring a team-high 20 points. The Grizzlies leading scorer for the season, Stephanie Ruiz wasn't far behind, tallying up 19 points and five assists. Nicole Broyles-Mortensen and Trinity Betoney seemed to be everywhere on the court, each coming away with four steals.
The game finished with Adams State leading in nearly every team statistical category. The Grizzlies bench outmatched the Cowgirls in scoring, 33-14. Adams tallied up 24 points off of 22 New Mexico Highlands' turnovers. It was a game that featured Adams State leading from tip-off to game-end.
Adams State returns to the court next weekend with road games against Colorado Mesa University and Western State Colorado University. Tip-off for both games is at 5:30 p.m.
