ALAMOSA – Adams State University men's lacrosse will have new direction as
Jerome Austin has been hired as the next head coach, athletic director
Larry Mortensen announced this week.
"After an extensive search we are proud to introduce
Jerome Austin as our new head coach," said Mortensen. "Jerome brings experience in developing young men on and off the field. He is a relentless recruiter with ties to lacrosse in the West. We look forward to him bringing success and stability to the program."
Austin most recently served as the head recruiter and defensive assistant for the University of Nevada Las Vegas Club Lacrosse team. The team finished 3-7 last season with wins against Nevada and UCLA in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association.
"I'm ready to get there now and get going," said Austin. "I'm excited to get these boys on board and move forward. Adams State is a great place and we will have a great team moving forward."
Additionally, Austin was the coach for the Centennial High School team since 2014, a team that was ranked sixth in the state of Nevada this season and seventh last season. In 2014 his team went 11-6 and were the top-ranked team in the state, winning the state championship with a 16-13 win against Faith Lutheran.
Austin also served as a coach for the Las Vegas Starz travelling team, helping develop college bound talent in the Western United States.
Austin's son, Jacob, was a freshman for the Grizzlies last season. He was tied for fifth on the team with 11 goals and had the second-most assists with six.
