Grizzlies Travel to Texas for Thanksgiving Classic

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Women's Basketball team heads to Canyon, Texas for the West Texas A&M Pak-A-Sak Thanksgiving Classic. The Grizzlies will take on West Texas A&M Friday, Nov. 29 and Eastern New Mexico Saturday, Nov. 30. Each of these games will be played at West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas.
 
Leading the Grizzlies into the weekend are leading point scorer Zakiya Beckles, Ally McKenzie, Paiton Demps from the line, and Makaela Ewing and Marshell Hollins on the boards. Beckles is leading Adams State in both point and steals. Beckles is averaging 11.8 points per game and two steals. Demps is a perfect 9-9 from the free throw line, and McKenzie going 13-16, with an .813 average in three games. Defensively, Ewing is leading the boards recording 19 rebounds, 6 offensive and 13 defensively. Hollins is right behind grabbing 18 total rebounds with 5 offensive and 13 defensively.
 
Watching #21 West Texas A&M
The #21 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs come into the weekend 5-2, and 1-0 in Lone Star Conference (LSC). The Buff finished the 2018-2019 campaign 29-4 overall, and 17-3 in the LSC. Last year the Buffs took on some familiar rivals, beating 6 RMAC teams. This season, West Texas A&M have defeated UC-Colorado Springs and Regis University. This weekend the Buffs look to take on Adams State and CSU-Pueblo.
 
Historically, the Grizzlies have only faced West Texas A&M twice in the past few years. In the 2013-2014 campaign the Grizzlies fell 76-53, and fell again 75-46 in the 2014-2015 season. The Grizzlies are looking forward to taking on the Lady Buffs for a Black Friday Special, at 1:30 p.m. MT Friday, Nov. 29.
 
Scouting the Greyhounds
The Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds come into the weekend 3-1 overall and 0-1 in conference. The Greyhounds fell to West Texas A&M last weekend 47-61 in Canyon, Texas. Easter New Mexico finished up 19-11 overall, and 14-6 in the LSC in their 2018-2019 campaign. The Greyhounds fell in the first round of the NCAA-II South Central Region Tournament to #1 West Texas A&M 68-67. Eastern New Mexico has faced two familiar RMAC teams in the 2019-2020 season, defeating New Mexico Highlands and Fort Lewis in the LSC/RMC Conference Challenge.
 
Historically, the Grizzlies and Greyhounds have faced off twice in their careers. Adams State came out on top at home in Alamosa in the 2013-2014 season. The Greyhounds defeated the Grizzlies in Durango, Colo. in the 2015-2016 season. The Grizzlies will challenge the Greyhounds once more on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. MT.
 
Coming Up
The Grizzlies will dive in to RMAC competition for their home openers Dec. 6 and 7 in Alamosa, Colo. Adams State will first take on CSU-Pueblo at 5:30 on Friday, Dec. 6 and New Mexico Highlands Saturday, Dec. 7 at 5:30.
