ALAMOSA, Colo. - Adams State Men's Lacrosse begins the 2019 campaign this weekend with a trip up North to Denver. The Grizzlies will take on a Division III to start the season.

2019 Season Preview
• The Grizzlies enter the 2019 campaign under the direction of a new head coach in
Jerome Austin. The team also brings back a number of players from 2018 and will have a handful of new faces on the field as well.
• 18 letterwinners are back on the Adams State roster this season with 15 new players joining the squad this season.
• The RMAC Preseason Coaches Poll has the grizzlies picked to finish fourth this season. They totaled three points and were two point back of CSU-Pueblo.
• Returning goalkeeper
Connor Johnson was also picked as the RMAC Preseason Co-Goalie of the Year.
• The Grizzlies bring back their top-three scorers from a season ago in
Kale Wilson,
Jacob Austin, and
Kage Janes.
• Wilson was the top scorer with 26 points on 22 goals and four assists. Austin finished with 17 points (11g, 6a), while Janes totaled 16 points (11g, 5a).
2018 Season In Review
• The Grizzlies finished the 2018 season with a 4-10 overall record but was 0-8 in RMAC competition.
• Goalkeeper
Connor Johnson led the RMAC in saves per game with 13.82. He was fourth in save percentage with 57.6 percent and had a total of 152 saves.
• As a unit, Adams State finished 126 points for the year on 117 goals scored and 48 assists. They shot .221 on the year and had a .560 shots on goal percentage.
• The Grizzlies four wins on the year came against Otterein, Maryville, Johnson & Wales, and Notre Dame de Namur.
Last Time Out - April 28, 2018 at CSU-Pueblo, L 9-14
• Adams State dropped its season finale to CSU-Pueblo to finish the 2018 season 4-10.
• The game was extremely physical, as there were 16 penalties in the game.
• Both teams were successful on three man-up situations, while Adams State led with nine opportunities.
• The Grizzlies were also victors on faceoffs, 14-11, groundballs, 36-27, and turnovers, 19-22.
• Adams State finished the season 3-4 at home and 1-0 in neutral site games but were 0-6 in true road contests.
Scouting Johnson & Wales
• The Wildcats posted just one win during the 2018 season as they 1-11 on the year. Their lone win came against central Christian.
• JWU does bring back their top two scorers from a season ago in Coleton Threlkeld and Deshaunte Longley.
• Threlkeld led the way with 14 points on 12 goals and two assists. Longley was one point back with 13 on nine goals while leading the team in assists with four.
• Threlkeld also saw some time in net playing six games at goalkeeper. The Wildcats will look to replace Wiley Cates at goalie who started 11 games in 2018.
• The 2019 season will mark Head Coach Kurt Ohlen's third season in leading the JWU squad.
• 10 athletes on the Wildcats squad are underclassmen, while the other nine consist of upperclassmen.
