Grizzlies Head to Denver for One Last Road Series

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The last road series of the season is this weekend as Adams State travels to Denver to take on Regis University in the second to last series of the season.

OPPONENT: Regis University Rangers (13-28, 8-20 RMAC) 
 
WHEN: Friday, April 26 – 3.m.
              Saturday, April 27 (DH) 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
              Sunday, April 28 – 12 p.m.

First Pitch
• Adams State played a high scoring game last weekend against CSU-Pueblo winning one of the three games in the series.  
• The opponent this week is the Regis University Raiders, who are coming off a one win series against Dixie State last weekend.   
• Adams State will end it season at home next weekend as they take on New Mexico Highlands.

Adams State Baseball History
• Grizzlies Baseball begins its seventh season as an NCAA sport. The program was re-instituted prior to the 2013 season after a 35 year hiatus.
• Prior to the 2013, Adams State last sponsored baseball in 1976 season when the program was still a member of the NAIA.
• Adams State enjoyed quite a bit of success winning back-to-back RMAC championships in 1973 and 1974.
• The Grizzlies posted the best overall record in the conference in each of the last four years (1973-76) while sponsoring the sport before it was discontinued.
 
The Capra File
• Head Coach James Capra has led the Grizzlies Baseball in each of the last six seasons. Coach Capra is a graduate of Adams State (Class of 1980).
• Coach Capra was a member of the 1976 team before it was cut. He also played football for three seasons at Adams State and was a three-year starter at wide receiver.
 
Last Time Out
• The power was on display last weekend as Adams State one of four games from CSU-Pueblo.
• They lost the first game 27-8 but recovered quickly as the second game was a 14-12 extra innings walk off win thanks to a Jared Gay walk off home run.
• Game three was another close game as the Grizzlies fell, 11-7 but had the bases loaded in the last inning but couldn't pull off another comeback. Game four was a 13-5 as Adams State simply ran out of pitching.

Batter Up!
• The Grizzlies have three hitters over .300 heading into this weekend.
Jared Gay continues to be one of the best power threats on the team.  He is hitting .336 with a team-high 36 RBI. He is also tied for the team lead with eight home runs. He has scored 23 runs as well and is slugging .580.
Nico Nintze is still the top hitters for Adams State, hitting .357 with eight home runs, 28 RBI, 30 runs scored, and a slugging percentage of .636 and an OPS of 1.033.
Logan Bistrup and Erik Hildebrandt round out the top four in the order with Bistrup at a .301 AVG, 24 RBI, and four triples. Hildebrandt has a .288 AVG, 28 runs scored and seven stolen bases. They both have 146 at bats as well to lead the team.  

Doing Work on the Hill
• Despite the slow start on the mound on the Grizzlies, their pitching unit has allowed no more than seven runs in their two series wins this year.
Daniel Brennan is leading the team in ERA this season with an 8.81 ERA.  
 • Troy Gutbub has thrown 56.2 innings this season with a 9.05 ERA for Adams State, which has resulted in 51 strikeouts, leading the team in innings and strikeouts. 
Dalton Carleo has thrown 48.2 innings this season, and has two wins on the season which is tied for most on the year.

Road Warriors
• The Grizzlies were one the road for their first 14 games on the road before playing a single game on their home turf.
• Adams State will play a total of 26 games on the road this season and 24 games at home after the series shift with Colorado Christian.
 
Scouting Regis
• The Raiders are 13-28 overall and 8-20 in RMAC play this season.
• Connor Rochon is the top hitter for Regis, hitting .379 on the season with 28 RBI and five home runs on the year.
• Coby Zimmerman is the top power hitter on the team with six home runs, and 35 RBI on the year.
• The Raiders have a 6.16 team ERA and three pitchers with an ERA under four.
• Kobie Schmitt has the best ERA on the team being right at 3.00 in 17 appearances with 19 strikeouts.
 • Brayden Brooks is the top starter for the Raiders with a 3.98 ERA in eight start, he has 40.2 innings pitched and 33 strikeouts.

• The Grizzlies will end the season at home next weekend as they host New Mexico Highlands.
• The series will start Thursday, May 3rd with first pitch at 3 p.m.
