Adams State Hosts Mavericks and Griffins in Final Regular Season Games

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Men's Lacrosse wraps up regular season play this weekend with a pair of home RMAC contests. The Grizzlies will also honor their seniors on Sunday.

Opening Faceoff
• Adams State ends regular season play this weekend with two home games against a pair of tough opponents.
• The Grizzlies are 3-7 overall and 0-4 in the RMAC entering the weekend. They will look to end a three-game skid this weekend as well.
• Adams State finished the road portion of its schedule with a 2-5 record during the regular season. The team is 1-2 at home entering the final weekend.
• The Grizzlies will begin postseason play as the RMAC Tournament begins next weekend.

Last Time Out

• Adams State fell in a back-and-forth affair at home last weekend as they dropped a 16-13 contest to CSU-Pueblo.
• The Grizzlies fell early 2-0, but surged back to lead multiple time in the first half of action. They went into halftime trailing 9-8.
• Adams State was in the hunt for its first RMAC win but a scoreless third period made the difference as the team fell by three.
 
Austin at the Helm
• Head Coach Jerome Austin enters the weekend with a 3-7 overall record at Adams State.
• The Grizzlies back-to-back wins prior to their two straight losses are the longest streak under Coach Austin in his first season.
 
Adams State Breakdown
Tanner Beck continues to lead the way for the Grizzlies offense. He has a team-best 28 points on 15 goals and a team-high 13 assists.
Kale Wilson is not far behind with 23 points entering the weekend. He has most goals with 17 to go along with six assists.
Johnny Rosas and Riley Morrison both are in double figure goals as well. Rosas has 13 along with six assists, while Morrison has 12 and four assists.
• Helping establish some offense is Roman Pepelyaev who has 63 faceoff wins to lead the Grizzlies. He also leads the way in groundball pickups with 31.
Terry Trudgian and Beck round out the top-three in groundballs with 25 and 20, respectively.
• Trudgian has also helped anchor the defensive unit as he has a team-high 11 caused turnovers on the year.
Sawyer Robison is second in caused turnovers with nine, while Brennan Grass sits third with eight.
• Goalie Connor Johnson has 106 saves this year entering the weekend. He boasts a .544 save percentage in net.
 
Scouting Colorado Mesa
• The Mavericks enter the weekend with a .500 record as they are 7-7 overall and 2-2 in RMAC play.
• Leading the offense is Jack Griffin with 57 points on 38 goals scored and 19 assists. His goal and assist total lead the team.
• Also contributing on offense is Brandon Wilson with 39 points on the year thanks to 24 goals and 15 assists.
• Joe Wulforst IV is third in points 32 on 19 goals and 13 assists. He leads the team with 10 goals scored in conference play.
• Michael Marino is the leader in groundball cleanup with 104. Austin Bullock sits second with 36, while Chase Overton is third with 34.
• Ryder Clark has the most turnovers on the year with 19 to lead CMU. Cole Smith is second with 11. Overton and Brian Buckner are tied for third with 10 each.
• Marino is also the top faceoff man for the Mavericks as he has 191 in 318 attempts for a percentage of .601.
• Christian Cherry is the top man in goal for CMU. He has a team-high 65 on the year and is 4-3 entering the weekend.
 
Scouting Westminster College
• The Griffins are 7-6 overall and undefeated at 4-0 in RMAC action entering the weekend.
• Nick Marcy continues to lead the offense with 59 points. He has 22 goals and a team best 37 assists.
• Kolton Atkinson is second in points but leads the team in goals. He has 45 goals to go along with five assists for 50 points.
• Spencer Whitney is third in points with 24 on 12 goals scored and 12 assists.
• Three other players have double-digit goals in Blake Gross (14), Cole Flinders (12), and Jacob Taylor (13).
• Mitchell Senour has the most groundballs with 63 going into the weekend. Kyle Williams is second with 34.
• Chase Flinders is the defensive leader with 18 caused turnovers this year. Grant Phillips is right behind him with 17.
• Senour also leads the way in faceoffs with 124 going in his favor this season on 243 attempts.
• Goalie Sean Edwards has a 103 saves this season and is 5-4 entering the weekend.
 
Up Next
• The Grizzlies will likely be the No. 4 seed in the RMAC Tournament which will take place May 3-4. Time and location are still to be determined.
