Grizzlies Back In Alamosa to Host UCCS

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Adams State Baseball continues RMAC play with a four-game home series against UC Colorado Springs this Friday-Sunday, April 5-7.
 
OPPONENT: UCCS Mountain Lions (18-12, 10-6 RMAC)
 
WHEN: Friday, April 5 – 3 p.m.
              Saturday, April 6 (DH) – 12 & 3 p.m.
              Sunday, April 7 – 12 p.m.

First Pitch
• Adams State returns home this weekend following a four-game set at Colorado School of Mines last weekend.
• The Grizzlies will look to snap an eight-game skid as they been swept in each of their last two series. They are 6-24 overall and 3-13 in the RMAC.
• Following its weekend home stint, the Grizzlies will once again hit the road, this time to Grand Junction, Colo. to face Colorado Mesa.

Adams State Baseball History

• Grizzlies Baseball begins its seventh season as an NCAA sport. The program was re-instituted prior to the 2013 season after a 35 year hiatus.
• Prior to the 2013, Adams State last sponsored baseball in 1976 season when the program was still a member of the NAIA.
• Adams State enjoyed quite a bit of success winning back-to-back RMAC championships in 1973 and 1974.
• The Grizzlies posted the best overall record in the conference in each of the last four years (1973-76) while sponsoring the sport before it was discontinued.
 
The Capra File
• Head Coach James Capra has led the Grizzlies Baseball in each of the last six seasons. Coach Capra is a graduate of Adams State (Class of 1980).
• Coach Capra was a member of the 1976 team before it was cut. He also played football for three seasons at Adams State and was a three-year starter at wide receiver.
 
Last Time Out
• The Grizzlies dropped their second straight series as they were swept on the road by the Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines.
• Mines' bats came to life in the series opener as the team scored 22 runs to secure a 22-3 win.
• Game two was another nine inning affair that the Ordeiggers won as they held off the Grizzlies for a 10-4 win.
• The finale was seven inning doubleheader with Mines winning both by slim scored of 7-2 and 4-1.
 
Batter Up!
• A quartet of Grizzlies are batting over .300 entering the weekend led by Jared Gay at .352.
• Gay is 32-91 on the year with 19 runs scored, a team-high 25 RBI and five home runs. In RMAC play he is batting .412 and has put up 19 RBI.
Nico Nintze sits second in batting average at .350. He has the most hits with 35, has six doubles, and 18 RBI. His 18 RBI are also second most on the team entering this weekend.
• Sitting third is Logan Bistrup with a .310 batting average. He has tallied 14 RBI to go along with four doubles, a team-high four triples, and two home runs. He has also scored 20 runs on the year.
• Rounding out the .300 hit club is Erik Hildebrandt with a .307 batting average. He leads the team in runs scored with 23 and has 10 RBI.
• Both Bistrup and Hildebrandt have also led the team in stolen bases. Bistrup is 7-7 on the year, while Hildebrandt is 5-6 in stolen bases.
Dakota Solis continues to lead the Grizzlies in doubles this season with six. He also has eight RBI this season and is batting .277.
 
Grizzlies on the Bump
Troy Gutbub leads the Grizzlies pitching core with 44 strikeouts on the year in 42 innings of work. He has the third most starts with nine and sports 2-4 record.
Daniel Brennan has the second most strikeouts for Adams State with 30 in 33.1 innings pitched.
• Sitting third in strikeouts is Dalton Carleo with 24. He has the most appearances on the hill with 13 while making six starts. He is second in innings pitched with 34.2 an dis 1-5 on the year.
Jamison Fuentes and David Maldonado are tied for fourth in strikeouts with 19 apiece. Kolton Bleggi and Trent Hughes are also in double figure strikeouts with 15 and 12, respectively.
 
Road Warriors
• The Grizzlies were one the road for their first 14 games on the road before playing a single game on their home turf.
• Adams State will play a total of 26 games on the road this season and 24 games at home after the series shift with Colorado Christian.
 
Scouting UCCS
• The Mountain Lions come into the weekend series with an 18-12 overall record and are 10-6 in RMAC play. They are also winners of five straight including a series sweep of New Mexico Highlands.
• UCCS currently sits tied for fourth in the RMAC with Mines. Against top-25 ranked opponents this season, UCCS is 7-8 on the year.
• Two players are batting over .400, while two are over .300 mark for the Mountain Lions offense.
• Matt McDermott leads the team as a whole with a .424 batting average. He is 42-99 with 13 doubles, two triples, five home runs and 31 RBI.
• Matthew Clarke is the second leading hitter with a .423 batting average. He is also second in doubles with 12, has hit five homers, and tallied 24 RBI.
• Jake Anderson is batting .352 to sit third on the UCCS team. He also has hit five homers and leads the team in RBI with 36.
• Evan Richards is fourth in hitting with a .324 batting average but has provided a lot of power for UCCS. He leads the team in homers with 12, has 33 RBI, and has scored 30 runs.
• McDermott leads the team in runs scored with 31. Richard sis second at 30, while Clarke is third with 29.
• A handful pitcher have started eight games for the UCCS pitching core. As a unit the sport a 5.89 team ERA.
• Daniel Silva has pitched the most inning in nine appearances and eight starts with 49. He is third in strikeouts with 25 and has a 5-1 record to go along with a 4.22 ERA.
• Jonathan Cowles is not far behind in innings pitched with 47. He has started eight contests as well and fanned a team-high 33 batters.
• Also making eight starts is Colin Cicere. He has pitched 41.2 innings and is second in strikeouts with 26 on the year.
• Out of the bullpen Cam Aufderheide has been a force. In 11.2 innings of work he as sported a 0.77 ERA, is 2-0, and struck out 10 batters while giving up just two runs this year.
• Defensively, the Mountain Lions boast a .970 fielding percentage. They have committed just 32 errors on the year.

• The Grizzlies will head to Grand Junction, Colo. to battle the No. 1-ranked Colorado mesa Mavericks.
• The four game series will be April 12-14. Game one first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
