Grizzlies Grab First Win of the Season

| Box Score 2 GLENDALE, Ariz. – Adams State Baseball goes 1-1 on the day in their pod series against Midland University and Arizona Christian. The Grizzlies won game one against Midland, 6-4. Adams State then fell in the afternoon to Arizona Christian 13-5.
 
Game One vs. Midland
Adams State got their first win of the season in game one, scoring 6 runs on 14 hits, while only allowing 4 runs. The game opened with quick three up, three down top and bottom of the first, and a scoreless second and top of the third. In the bottom of the second, the Warriors hit a lead of single, followed by a sac bunt, advancing the runner to second. After stealing third and a walk, on an attempt to steal second, the Warriors made it a 1-0 game.
 
Midland continued their run in the bottom of the fourth, leading off with a single to right. The Warriors scored their second run from an infield error and a single to right. Leading 2-0, the Warriors added two more in the bottom of the sixth. Midland opened the inning with a single to right center, followed by a fielders choice, getting the out at second. The Warriors added their second baserunner from a walk, then scored their two runs on a ground-rule double to left field.
 
Trialing 4-0, the Grizzlies entered the top of the seventh. Jake Angelopulous had a lead-off walk, followed by a walk to Jace Wytalka. Kolton Bleggi hit into a fielders choice, getting Wytalka out at second and advancing Angelopulous to third. Nico Nintze hit a sac fly to right field to score Angelopulous. With two outs and two men on, Cedrick Reynaud singled to center to score Bleggi. Mike Bathauer came into pinch hit, singling up the middle, advancing pinch runner Ryan Downs to third. Chase Dixon singled up the middle to give the Grizzlies three runs.
 
The Grizzlies tacked on one more in the top of the eighth. Will Morley led the inning off with a single to centerfield and was advanced to second by a ground out from Angelopulous. Wytulka singled to second, advancing Morley to third. Adams State tied the game at four after Bleggi doubled to right center to score Morley.
 
Adams State scored their final two runs in the top of the ninth. Bathauer got the inning started by reaching on an error by the second baseman and was advanced to third from a double by Dixon. Noah Befus came up and singled to right center, scoring by Bathauer and Dixon, giving the Grizzlies the win.
 
Both Reynaud and Befus led the Grizzlies, going 3-5 with Reynaud earning 1 RBI and Befus with 2. Dalton Carleo led the Grizzlies on the hill, pitching seven innings, facing 27 batters with 5 strikeouts.
              
Game Two vs. Arizona Christian
Game two started similar to game one, with scoreless first and second innings. The Grizzlies added a tally to the scoreboard in the top of the third, starting with a leadoff single for Morley. Wytulka grounded out to second, advancing Morley to second. With two outs, Nintze reached on an error by the second baseman, and scored Morley, putting the Grizzlies up 1-0. The Firestorm responded, scoring one in the bottom of the third from a couple of singles.
 
Tied 1-1, Adams State countered with two more runs in the top of the fourth. After a leadoff single and a wild pitch, the Grizzlies scored on an error at first. Adams State added their second run after another single up the middle and fielders choice. Leading 3-1, the Grizzlies tacked on one more run in the top of the fifth.
Arizona Christian took over in the bottom half of the inning, scoring 6 runs on 4 hits. They continued their rally, scoring 4 more in the bottom of the sixth. Trialing 11-4, the Grizzlies got one back in the top of the eighth, reaching and advancing on errors. The Firestorm added their final two runs in the bottom of the eighth, making it 13-5.
 
In game two, the Grizzlies were led by Reynaud going 3-3 with 1 RBI. On the mound for the Grizzlies was Cutter Smith, completing 5 innings with 4 strikeouts.
 
The Grizzlies will be back out on the field tomorrow to take on Arizona Christian at 9 a.m.
