ALAMOSA, Colo.—After a two-week break, the Adams State University women's basketball team will be back on the court for three games in four days as they are set to host MSU Denver on Friday (Dec. 31), Colorado Christian on Saturday (Jan. 1) and CSU Pueblo on Tuesday (Jan. 4). Friday and Saturday's games are crucial as all three teams are tied in the conference with 2-3 records.
Adams State, who is in a three-way tie for ninth place in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, has a 4-6 overall record and a 2-3 RMAC record. Their last game was a hard-fought 79-69 loss at Colorado Mesa. In the game
Elaina Watson scored a career-high 20 points on her 20 th birthday. Unfortunately, Colorado Mesa had the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week on their team as Mariah Martin. She registered seven assists and a career-high 33 points against the Grizzlies after knocking down all 18 of her free-throw attempts, marking a CMU school record in the process.
MSU Denver enters Friday's contest tied with the Grizzlies as they have a 6-4 overall record and a 2-3 RMAC record. They are led by Allie Navarette, who averages 13 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game. San Luis Valley native Kendra Parra, a graduate of Del Norte High School, averages 7.8 assists per game.
Colorado Christian is 5-6 overall with a 2-3 RMAC mark. Lourdes Gonzalez is the top player for the Cougars as she averages 9.7 points per game.
CSU Pueblo, who is third in the conference after suffering a loss to Colorado Mesa on Dec. 18, has an 8-3 overall redo and a 4-1 RMAC mark. They played the Grizzlies on Dec. 7 and were ranked No. 22 at the time, as of publishing time, they are receiving votes in the latest poll. The Grizzlies and ThunderWolves had a tough game in the Dec. 7 match up in Pueblo, where the Grizzlies fell 72-59.
JaNaiya Davis is the player to shut down for CSU Pueblo as she averages 15 points per game, 3.1 assists per game and shoots 43.3 percent from the field and 96.6 percent from the free throw line.
After Tuesday's game, the Grizzlies will be off for ten days before they hit the road two consecutive weekends and four straight games. They will play at UCCS on Jan. 14, at New Mexico Highlands on Jan. 15, at Western Colorado on Jan. 21, and at Fort Lewis on Jan. 22.
