Box Score 2 PLAINVIEW, Texas— The Grizzlies opened up their season with a doubleheader against Wayland Baptist Pioneers. They split the first two games of the series in Plainview.
Wayland Baptist 5, Adams State 4 (8 innings)
The Pioneers jumped out to an early lead with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning. Adams State responded with a sacrifice fly by
Matt Bathauer and a solo homer by
Mike Bathauer in the top of the fourth inning. The Pioneers responded to that with an another two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. Bathauer came up in the sixth inning and hit a two-run bomb to tie it up. Adams State fell short in the eighth inning losing on a walk off.
Adams State 3, Wayland Baptist 0
Alfredo Villa started the game for the Grizzlies and had an outstanding pitching performance. He threw six innings giving up three hits, one walk, and delivering 10 strikeouts. Adams State took the lead in the top of the fifth inning with a
Will Morley solo shot. The Grizzlies added two more in the top of the sixth inning starting with a triple from Bathauer. Chance Stand came in and close the game for the Grizzlies.
