Weather, COVID alters weekend athletic schedule

ALAMOSA, Colo.— Due to the potential for winter weather and COVID-19 protocols, several of Adams State University athletic schedules have been altered for the weekend.

Baseball
The baseball team looks to stay in contention for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) playoff berth as they are set to travel to Denver to take on the MSU Denver Roadrunners in a four-game series.

The series, which was to be played over three days, has now been condensed down to two days due to weather.

MSU Denver, after being swept on the road by the No. 1 team in the country Colorado Mesa University and dropping out of the national rankings, is ready to start its road to baseball recovery. They are sitting in the equivalent of 29th place in the national standings.

The Roadrunners, who are 21-7 overall and 17-7 in the RMAC and the Grizzlies, 6-18 overall and 5-15 in the RMAC, will clash in two doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. They will play a nine-inning game before capping of the twin bills with seven-inning affairs.

Softball
Unlike normal RMAC doubleheaders, the Grizzly softball teams will partake in two doubleheaders this week at All-Star Park in Lakewood. Saturday's games are scheduled to take place at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday, games are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Adams State, who took three of four from Chadron State this past weekend, is looking to snap a 14-game losing streak against the Cougars.

Fans can follow the action via the RMAC Network, Live Stats or Adams State Sports Information Director Eric Flores will have the call of the first games of both doubleheaders live on KSPK-FM.

Women's Lacrosse
The Adams State Women's Lacrosse team was scheduled to have a game at Regis on Friday, however, due to the forecast, the teams have agreed to play the games on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain Lion Stadium at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

The Grizzlies will then take to the field on Sunday when they take on the Mountain Lions at 1:00 p.m.
Adams State is looking for their first win of the season.

Women's Soccer
Due to COVID-19 protocols, Friday's Senior Day match up between Adams State and Colorado Christian is cancelled and since there is no time to make up the game before the RMAC Tournament, the regular season has come to an end.

With a 2-4 overall record and a 1-3 RMAC record, the Grizzlies have officially finished in fourth place in their Division, thus for the second time in program history, clinching a berth into the RMAC tournament. In addition to the berth, head coach Colin Baker has led a Grizzly soccer team, men or women, into the RMAC tournament for the first time since 2006.

All COVID-19 related decisions are made in partnership with University leadership and advisement from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference as well as local public health authorities.

The RMAC Women's Soccer Tournament bracket, seedings, and hosting sites are expected to be announced by the league office this weekend.
