TF | Cotter wins 1,500 crown; Grizzlies finish season with 10 All-Americans

ALLENDALE, Mich.—The 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Saturday at the Grand Valley State Track & Field Stadium and the Grizzlies celebrated with a national champion and ten total All-Americans on the weekend.

Adams State saw sophomore Stephanie Cotter win her fifth career national title and second of this academic year as she won the 1,500-meter championship with a time of 4:14.96, nearly a three-second gap over second place. Cotter also won the indoor mile championship earlier this year. Her time, which set a new facility record at the GVSU Stadium, was the sixth fastest in NCAA Division II history in the race.

Senior Emma Wren finished the race in tenth place with a time of 4:26.62.

The Grizzlies scored 14 points in the 5,000-meter run as Eilish Flanagan (15:50.59) earned her ninth All-American honor with a second-place finish. Roisin Flanagan (15:52.80) finished in third to earn her 13th All-American honor.

Brianna Robles finished in 16:42.91 to finish in 11th place.

Freshman Jonah Vigil earned All-America status as he finished in fourth place with a time of 20.901 in the 200-meter dash.

In the men's 1,500-meter run, junior Alec Hall (3:55.01) and freshman James Dunne (3:56.23) finish in 9th and 10th, respectfully.

In what was one of the most intense and tactical races of the meet for Adams State, Carson Bix ran a 56-second final lap to finish in second and earn All-American status with a time of 14:14.35. He was as low as eighth place before becoming a surgeon and slicing through the pack back to second in the final lap.

Overall, through the weekend, the Grizzlies amassed ten All-American honors and two national champions.

The Grizzly men finished in in a tie for 15th place with 16 points.

The women, who finished entered the day in fifth place, battled and finished in fourth place with 46 points.
