ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State Grizzlies women's basketball team will finally be back in action after having more than a week without games.
They played their last game on Tuesday, January 4th, against Colorado State Pueblo. The Grizzlies have much to prove after that loss and will have plenty of time to do so. They have a busy schedule as they play six games over the next nine days. They will have two home games (Tuesday vs. Colorado Christian at 5:00 p.m. and Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. vs. MSU Denver) sandwiched between two road RMAC trips.
Their first game this weekend is against UCCS on Friday at 5:30 p.m. In the last matchup between the two teams earlier this season, the Grizzlies lost but it was a close one. The final score was 71-60. The Mountain Lions were led by Jasmine Jeffcoat who had a double-double with 17 points on 6-of-12 field goals and 11 rebounds. Helping her was Shelby Megyeri who had seven rebounds and 16 points. The overall record between the two teams is the Grizzlies have lost to the Mountain Lions 14 times and have only beat the eight times. The Grizzlies are in an eight-game losing streak against the Mountain Lions. The Mountain Lions are currently 3-9 overall and 1-5 in conference while the Grizzlies are 4-7 overall and 2-4 in conference.
After traveling to Colorado Springs, the Grizzlies will make their way to Las Vegas, New Mexico to play New Mexico Highlands. In their last matchup the Grizzlies won 80-43 and extending their winning record against the Cowboys. Overall the Grizzles are 17-14 against New Mexico Highlands and are on a two-game win streak. The Cowboys are currently 3-9 overall and 0-6 in conference. They are being led by Jordyn Lewis, who averages 31.3 minutes, 13.3 points, and three rebounds. Behind Lewis is Sana'a Baker who averages 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, and is 37 percent from the field.
Up next, the Grizzlies will be home for two days during the week against Colorado Christian and Metropolitan State University of Denver. These two games were previously scheduled on December 31st and January 1st, but due to COVID-19 protocols the games got rescheduled. After these games, the Grizzlies are back of the road that weekend against Western Colorado and Fort Lewis.
