DURANGO, Colo.—The Adams State University men's basketball team followed the women's team by winning a thriller inside Whalen Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon as the Grizzlies won 90-89 in overtime.
The first half saw the Grizzlies jump out to a 17-7 lead before a 12-0 run by Fort Lewis gave the Skyhawks a 19-17 lead. Adams State countered with a 9-0 run in just 1:19 that included a four-point play by
Tyrin Hollis to give the Grizzlies s 26-19 lead.
The two teams rallied back and actually tied the game at 26 before the Grizzlies finally pulled away and took a 42-36 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Grizzlies earned a lead but the Skyhawks rallied and went on a 13-3 run to push the game to the brink. As the period progressed, a foul was called with 0.8 seconds showing allowed Fort Lewis to tie the game up at 79 and force overtime.
Malik Moore took over the overtime period as he scored five straight points to offset a single field goal by the Skyhawks as the Grizzlies were able to just outdistance themselves from Fort Lewis by huttung 6-of-11 free throws in the second five seconds.
Nykolas Lange was the top scorer for the Grizzlies as he scored 21 points,
Jordan Notch scored 16 points, Koby Walker scored 14 and
Tyrin Hollis scored 11.
The Grizzlies return back to action on Friday and Saturday at home when they host Regis and Colorado School of Mines. Tip-off for both games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
