VB| Grizzlies Run Win Streak to Two With Another Sweep

ALAMOSA, Colo. – Three days after taking down Chadron State College in sweeping fashion, Adams State duplicated its inspired effort tonight in a 25-19, 25-21, 25-15 decision over New Mexico Highlands to run its win streak to two.

Natalie Gallegos paced the Grizzlies with a team-best 13 kills while teammate Cindy Garcia added 10 in the win, improving ASU to 6-11 overall, and 3-6 in RMAC action.

Adams State hit a sizzling .359 in the win in blasting 40 kills with just seven attack errors, and showed its domination at the net with an 11-to-2 advantage in blocks.

The hosts took a 5-1 lead to open the match behind Sierra Leon Sanchez' serve, and withstood a NMH surge to double the score on the Cowboys, 16-8.

Despite the visitors clawing to within three at 20-17, kills by Gallegos and Garcia, followed by a Gallegos service ace brought ASU to 23-17, with a pair of NMH miscues giving the set to the Grizzlies.

Set two saw ASU jump in front by a 7-4 count and maintain its 3-point edge by taking a 14-11 lead later in the frame.

The Cowboys managed to get to within two at 19-17, but a pair of Anna Huggins putaways spurred a 6-4 run to close the set and give Adams State a commanding two-set-to-none lead.

It was all ASU after intermission as a 10-5 lead ballooned into a 22-13 cushion behind Riley Rabedeaux at the serve, with Garcia hammering down two of the final three points to give the Grizzlies the sweep.

ASU was error-free in that third set, putting away 15 balls in 30 opportunities without an attack error.

Gallegos hit .619 in the match as she hammered home 13 balls on 21 attempts, while Garcia put down 10 balls on 22 attempts with just one error, good for a .407 hitting percentage.

ASU will look to make it three-straight on Friday as it travels to Regis for a 7 pm first serve.
