ALAMOSA, Colo.—It was a double dip of good news for the Adams State men's basketball team on Friday night inside Plachy Hall.
ASU built a 20-point halftime lead and cruised to a 94-85 win over Western Colorado University to send out the seniors in style. The win was the 150th in the career of coach
Russ Caton, who is in his seventh year in charge of the Grizzlies' program.
ASU improved to 12-14 overall, 8-12 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Western State slipped to 5-22, 4-17 in the conference.
Five ASU players reached double figures, led by Rylan O'brien's 25 points.
Kaelin Crane was next with 21, while
Jordan Notch threw in 18 points.
Nykolas Lange contributed 11.
Five Mountaineers hit doubles figures, led by 24 points from Cole Sienknecht. Matthew Ragsdale tossed in 20, and Jaeln McCloud scored 12. Will Willis added 11, and Elijah Davidson added 10.
ASU made almost 59 percent of its field goals and made nine of 23 from 3-point land. The Grizzlies' biggest lead was 21 points, which came in the first half.
The Grizzlies honored Lange, Crane, Notch, Arceneaux and
Malik Moore.
Adams State heads toward the Denver area for two games next weekend. The first stop is the Colorado School of Mines in Golden for a 7:30 p.m. contest Friday, Feb. 25. Then it's off to Regis University for a 6 p.m. game Saturday, Feb. 26, to close out the regular season.
