GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Adams State men's and women's swimming teams competed in the TYR/CMU Invitational on Wednesday to Saturday evening this week. This marked the biggest meet thus far of the season and the Grizzlies competed in all four days of the competition.
The men finished 4th of 5 teams overall each day scoring was kept and the women finished 7th of 7 teams overall each day scoring was kept.
Wednesday Results
On Wednesday the women competed 3 times across 2 events. They placed 6th in the 200 yard medley relay, with a time of 1:50.96, only a quarter of a second off their seed time. The Grizzlies also placed 11th and 12th in the 1000 yard freestyle.
The men competed 7 times across 4 events on Wednesday. In the 200 yard medley relay, the Grizzlies finished 5th and 8th. The 5th place squad swam a time of 1:37.62. In the 1000 yard freestyle the men 15th, 16th, and 17th. Leading the way for the Grizzlies was Bryce Scott with a time of 10:19.73. The Grizzlies also finished 4th (7:22.09) in the 800 yard freestyle relay and 2nd (55.23) in the 100 yard butterfly time trial.
Thursday Results
On Thursday the women competed 9 times across 4 events. Kennedy Larson (5:53.88) finished 34th and Sammy Buttermore (6:14.23) finished 36th in the 500 yard freestyle. In the 200 yard IM Anjali Friedman (2:15.70) finished 38th. Jocelyn Jones (24.83) finished 29th in the 50 yard freestyle. In the 200 yard freestyle relay the grizzlies finished 6th with a time of 1:44.03.
The men competed 28 times across 9 events. Bryce Scott (5:01.66) finished 24th in the 500 yard freestyle final. In the 200 yard IM Matthew Tidwell (2:03.56) finished 23rd and Cody Natali (2:04.93) finished 24th. Brayden Stalcup (22.42) finished 21st, George Lutkenhaus (23.01) finished 23rd, and Ricky Santiago (23.31) finished 24th in the 50 yard freestyle. In the 200 yard freestyle relay the Grizzlies finished 5th with a time of 1:30.40.
Friday Results
On Friday the women competed 16 times in 7 events. Jocelyn Jones (1:00.47) placed 30th and Anjali Friedman (1:01.54) placed 32nd in the 100 yard butterfly. Jocelyn Jones (2:01.92) placed 34th in the 200 yard freestyle. Anjali Friedman (1:07.44) placed 21st and Sammy Buttermore (1:28.31) placed 24th in the 100 yard breaststroke. The Grizzlies placed 7th (4:10.24) in the 400 yard medley relay.
The men competed 37 times across 12 events. Sunshine Scott (57.43), Josh Jones (58.16), and Alec Hattler (1:01.93) placed 17th-19th in the 100 yard butterfly. Matthew Tidwell (4:21.07), Derek Cooley (4:33.69), and Talon Beagle (4:59.09) placed 20th-22nd in the 400 yard IM. Bryce Scott (1:47.26) placed 19th in the 200 yard freestyle. David O'Brien (1:01.86) placed 15th in the 100 yard breaststroke. Cody Natali (53.26) placed 13th and Sunshine Scott (1:01.33) placed 14th in the 100 yard backstroke. The Grizzlies (3:38.60) also placed 5th in the 400 yard medley relay.
Saturday Results
On Saturday the women competed 14 times in 7 events. Kennedy Larson (20:39.82) and Sammy Buttermore (21:47.23) finished 13th and 15th in the 1650 yard freestyle. Peyton Schwartz (2:13.39) finished 24th in the 200 yard backstroke. Anjali Friedman finished 17th in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:26.74. To finish the meet the Grizzlies finished 7th with a time of 3:52.33 in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
The men competed 37 times across 12 events. Bryce Scott (17:23.63), Payton Bowman(17:34.75), and Cole Haight (19:41.32) finished 13th-15th in the 1650 yard freestyle. Cody Natali (2:00.64) and Chauncey Matthews (2:05.23) finished 12th and 13th in the 200 yard backstroke. Brayden Stalcup finished 21st in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 49.08. The men finished the meet with a 5th place finish in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:17.65.
Next Up
The Grizzlies will be off until January 13th where they will head to Gunnison, Colorado to face off against Western Colorado. Following that meet, they will head up to Colorado Springs the following weekend for the Colorado College Classic.
