Colorado Springs, Colo. – The Adams State men's and women's swimming team competed in the Colorado College Classic this weekend. The men finished 4th out of 7 teams with a point total of 334 and the women finished 5th out of 7 teams scoring 197 points. The women had one medalist, scoring 3rd in the 200 IM.
The men's team competed 70 times over 27 events, while the women competed 41 times over 22 events.
The men finished the weekend with ten top 8 finishes. In the 1650 free Payton Bowman brought home the Grizzlies first top 8 finish with a time of 19:21.04, placing 8th. Cody Natali placed 7th in the 100 Back with a time of 56.97, then in the final he placed 8th with a time of 58.00. In the 400 Free Relay the men placed 7th with a time of 3:24.72, then came back to place 7th in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:32.12. In the 200 Back Cody Natali placed 4th (highest men's Grizzly finish) with a time of 2:03.23 and in the 200 fly Derek Cooley placed 7th with a time of 2:12.19. In the 800 Free Relay the men finished 4th with a solid time of 7:42.41, scoring 30 points. To finish the meet on a high note the men finished 8th in the 400 Medley relay with a time of 3:55.88.
The women wrapped up their competition with fourteen top 8 finishes. Jocelyn Jones was the first grizzly to finish top 8 this weekend for the women, placing 5th in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:03.62. Anjali Friedman was the next grizzly to score big points, placing 5th in the 200 Breast, with a time of 2:35.94. Jocelyn Jones then came back to place 6th in the 100 Fly final with a time of 1:06.58, while Anjali Friedman followed her previous performance placing 5th in the 200 Breast final with a time of 2:35.62. In the 400 Free Relay the Grizzlies "A" team placed 7th with a time of 4:00.48. The women also placed top 8 (8th) in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:48.19. Anjali Friedman then placed 3rd, the highest Grizzly finish of the weekend, in the 200 IM. She finished with a time of 2:22.26. In the 500 Free Jocelyn Jones finished 6th with a time of 5:48.01 and Anjali Friedman came back, yet again, to place 6th in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:12.26. In the 200 Back Hannah Zimmer placed 5th with a time of 2:25.73. Anjali Friendman solidified her 3rd place finish in the final of the 200 IM with a time of 2:22.30, while Jocelyn Jones finished 6th in the 500 Free final with a time of 5:41.60.
The Grizzlies will be back in action next weekend the 27th at Colorado School of Mines for a dual meet.
