GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—The Adams State University Wrestling team made their debut on Saturday as they competed in the Maverick Open inside Brownson Arena on the campus of Colorado Mesa.
The Grizzlies had nine wrestler in green for the Grizzlies. Julianna Canelaria went 0-2 at 116 pounds as he fell to Samantha Memmott of Snow College and Citori Bosserman from Northwest Kansas Tech.
Taniel Espinoza finished in third place at 116 points as she fell by tech fall to unattached Charlotte Fowler before she defeated Texas Woman's Adoline Soliz. She then defeated Trinidad State's Giana Roskam via the tech fall and then avenged her teammate by winning by forfeit over Bosserman.
At 123 pounds,
Bella Devoto finished in sixth place whule
Nicole Woisin just missed out on placing by one match, Devoto went 2-3 and dropped two matches via tech fall and another by injury default. Woisin went 3-2 with a tech falls and a fall.
At 130 pounds,
Trinity Perez and Ryle McCabe each dropped out in the consolation matches while Liana Fernandez finished in fourth place at 136 pounds. Marissa Rimbert won one match at 143 pounds.
Miranda Sanchez went 0-2 at 155 pounds.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Dec. 3 when they travel to Fort Hays, Kan. For the Bob Smith Open.
