ALAMOSA, Colo. – Saturday's Football ball game at Rex Stadium will showcase the Adams State University Grizzlies and the No. 13 ranked Western Colorado University Mountaineers in the 76th annual Colorado Classic. If that's not enough to draw fans, the Grizzlies will also celebrate the 77th Annual Spud Bowl, Veteran's Day and will partake in Senior Day festivities.

Adams State played neck-and-neck with Black Hills State before eventually falling to the Yellow Jackets 35-28. The Grizzlies scored in every quarter of the game as
Kentrell Petite caught two touchdowns.
Looking at Western
The Mountaineers got back in the win column with a 57-3 victory over Fort Lewis after dropping the previous week's match at No. 1 Colorado School of Mines 42-7. After the win the Mountaineers rose two spots from No. 15 to. No. 13 in the latest AFCA Poll.
Adams State-Western Colorado History
The Mountaineers are 42-32 all-time against the Grizzlies having won the last two with their defense leaving the Grizzlies to score just ten points in each game.
One of the most recent thrillers was back in 2015 when Adams State University overcame a 36-point deficit that led to a dramatic 52-51 overtime victory. The Grizzlies trailed 42-6 in the closing seconds of the second quarter but erupted for 36 unanswered points after halftime to force overtime. The rivalry game concluded with both teams combining for 1,241 yards of total offense and nine touchdowns.

Senior Day
Fans and senior parents are asked to arrive early as senior appreciation will commence at 12:29 p.m.
Spud Bowl
In addition, Saturday's game is the 77th Annual Spud Bowl. The Spud Bowl tradition began in 1946 when the potato farmers in the Valley were asked to contribute sacks of spuds to the college, which, in turn, were converted into cash to supplement the athletic program. The tradition and spirit have continued, and Spud Bowl remains a highlight of each football season.
Potatoes will be given out to fans upon leaving the stadium.
In addition, San Luis Valley schools are asked to nominate a senior as a candidate for Spud Bowl Queen. The candidates are interviewed during the morning of Spud Bowl by a panel of judges, and a winner is then selected and announced at halftime of the football game. The Colorado Potato Administrative Committee and Adams State University offer scholarships to all candidates.
Fan are also invited to visit the Grizzly Club tailgate area before the game to partake in a baked potato bar courtesy of the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee. Included in the bar is the traditional toppings and pork green chili.
The tailgate are is the parking lot south of Rex Stadium adjacent Neilson Library.
Veterans Get in Free
Veterans and their families can get into Friday night's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference volleyball match against Regis University at 7:00 p.m., Saturday's football game against Western Colorado AND Saturday's volleyball game for free sponsored by SLV Health.
Toys for Tots
In addition, the ASU Athletics team is sponsoring a toy drive from noon to 3:00 p.m. If you would like to donate an unwrapped toy as you head to the game, a table will be set up near the main entrance.
