Box Score LAS VEGAS, N.M. -- Adams State and New Mexico Highlands universities brought out the bats in their series finale March 26 at Brandt Baseball Field.
And when the dust settled, the Cowboys pushed over a run in the ninth inning and beat the Grizzlies 12-11. The two teams combined for 33 hits.
With two outs in the last of the ninth, Bryant O'Neill walked and advanced to second on a single by Roy Pacheco. Joseph Romero's single to left field scored pinch-runner R.J. Abernathy with the game-winning run.
The win pushes Highlands' record to 2-24 and 1-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. ASU is 9-20, 4-8 in the RMAC.
Both teams scored seven runs in their first four turns at the plate.
Mike Bathauer's RBI double gave the Grizzlies a one-run lead in the sixth inning. NMHU answered with three runs in its half of the seventh inning, courtesy of O'Neill's three-run home run.
ASU fought back with a single run in the eighth, thanks to Bathauer's infield grounder that produced the first out of the inning. ASU tied the game in the ninth after a scoring fly ball by
Ayden Tauscher and
Joseph Raker's RBI single that brought home
Ethan Abegg.
Tauscher finished with four hits and three RBIs for Adams State.
Mike Bathauer had two hits and two RBIs. New Mexico Highlands' Fabian Ferreira had three hits and drove in four runs. O'Neill finished with two hits and three runs.
After a week off, Adams State returns home for a four-game series against the Colorado School of Mines. First pitch for the opener is 2 p.m. Thursday, April 6.
