Box Score 2 PLAINVIEW, Texas – After a weekend off, the Adams State University Baseball team came out on fire before splitting Friday afternoon's doubleheader with the Wayland Baptist University Pioneers.
GAME 1: ASU 9, WBU 8
The Grizzlies scored the first six runs of the game including four in the first inning.
Jack Dere came in clutch in the inning with a two run home run to left field.
Entering the bottom of the second inning with a 6-0 lead, the Pioneers scored four runs to cut the lead to just two, 6-4. Another sac fly in the bottom of the fourth made the score 7-4 but Wayland Baptist scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at seven.
The Grizzlies regained the lead in the top of the seventh off a Bathauer home run and a single by
Phil Carter to take a 9-7 advantage.
The Pioneers homered in the bottom of the seventh and even had the game-tying run on first before the Grizzlies closing the game out.
Game 2: WBU 3, ASU 2
The Grizzlies took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but three batters came to the plate and two scored as a walk-off single doomed the Grizzlies, 3-2.
