Grizzlies Dominate Early, Secure First Dual Win of the Season

Alamosa, Colo. – The Adams State women's wrestling team delivered a strong performance in its home dual against Chadron State, winning 29-18. The Grizzlies built an early lead with dominant showings across multiple weight classes and held off a late push from Chadron to secure their first dual victory of the season.

The dual opened at 103 pounds, where Katelyn Faczak set the tone for the Grizzlies with a hard-fought 7-4 decision over No. 20-ranked Mana Chanthasone, giving Adams State a 3-1 lead.

At 110 pounds, No. 11-ranked Austria Holland wasted no time, pinning Rylee Balcazar in just 1:48 to earn 5 points and extend the lead.

The momentum continued at 117 pounds, where Rylie McCabe controlled her match against Shania Wear before securing a fall at 5:02, adding another 5 points to the Grizzlies' total.

Bella Devoto followed with an impressive 10-0 technical fall victory at 124 pounds, overwhelming Maddox Gehlhausen in just 50 seconds, giving Adams State a commanding lead.

At 131 pounds, Brisa Salas picked up a forfeit win, adding 5 points to the Grizzlies' tally.

Adams State's dominance continued at 138 pounds when No. 8-ranked Corrie Williams delivered another technical fall, defeating Hattie Baldwin 10-0 in just 1:12.

Chadron earned a forfeit victory at 145 pounds, with Karstin Hollen securing the win.

At 160 pounds, Abby Smith wrestled well in a close match but came up short on criteria, dropping a 2-2 decision to Maria Arellano.

The Eagles gained more ground at 180 pounds when Sicily Frates defeated Abigail Wold by technical fall, 12-2, at 3:21.

Chadron closed out the dual at 207 pounds as Esther Peters pinned Brook Newton at 1:49.

Adams State's early dominance was enough to seal the 29-18 victory.

The Grizzlies will head to Colorado College in Colorado Springs on Saturday to compete in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship. This marks the second year of the competition and the second year Adams State is participating.
