Grizzly Men's and Women's Swim Take on the Orediggers in Day 1 of a Two Day Event

GOLDEN, Colorado – On Friday night, the Grizzlies squared up against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in the first day of a two-day event. The Women's swim team for the Grizzlies lost in the duel by a score of 92-44, while the Men's swim team lost by a final score of 134-82. 
 

Women's Events

200 Yard Medley Relay- In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, the Adams State A relay team, composed of Ashlyn Popham, Annika Schaak, Jocelyn Jones, and Ryley Martinez, finished in third place. They finished with a final time of 2:05.90 to secure third place in the relay race.

100 Yard Backstroke- In the 100 Yard backstroke, the Grizzlies placed one woman in the top 3. Clare Bonham was able to secure third place with a final time of 32.37 in the event. 

100 Yard Fly- Winning the 100 Yard fly for the Grizzlies was Jocelyn Jones. Jones finished the event with a final time of 1:07.34 to collect the win for the Grizzlies. 

400 Yard Free Relay- Collecting the first and second place for the Grizzlies in the 400 Yard Free Relay were the Adams State A team and the Adams State B team, respectively. The Adams State A team, composed of Ryley Martinez, Brenna Otteman, Ashlyn Popham, and Jocelyn Jones, finished with a final time of 3:58.36 to collect the win, while the Adams State B team, composed of Eleanor Schafer, Lana Rhoads, Kennedy Larson, and Clare Bonham, finished with a time of 4:08.30 to collect second place. 

 

Men's Events

200 Medley Relay Men- Finishing in third place for the Grizzlies in the 200-yard Medley Relay was the Adams State A team composed of Kenny Rupp, Keenan Johnson, Quintin Cummings, and Jess Baker. The four men finished with a final time of 1:41.11.

100 Yard Backstroke- Ben Brewer was able to secure a top 3 finish for the Grizzlies in the 100 yard backstroke. Brewer finished with a final time of 27.25, which was only 0.98 seconds off the winner of the race for the Orediggers.

100 Yard Free- In the 100 Yard free race, Quintin Cummings secured a third-place finish for the Grizzlies. Cummings finished with a time of 24.14 to secure third place.

200 Yard Backstroke- Collecting 2nd place for the Grizzlies in the 200 Yard backstroke was Kenny Rupp. Rupp finished with a time of 1:30.32 to collect second place in the race and was only off the winner of the race by 1.03 seconds. 

200 Yard Breaststroke- Finishing in third place for the Grizzlies in the 200 Yard breaststroke was Keenan Johnson. Johnson was the lone Grizzly to compete in the event and finished with a final time of 1:47.54 to collect his third-place finish. 

500 Yard Free- Collecting a first-place finish for the Grizzlies in the 500 Yard free was Finn McFarland. McFarland stayed consistent in the long-distance event to collect the win for the Grizzlies with a final time of 5:15.85.

100 Yard Fly- In the 100 Yard fly, the Grizzlies were able to take all three of the top spots. Quintin Cummings finished in first, Dillon Brown took second place, and Zane Spears finished in third place. Cummings won the event with a final time of 53.18, while Brown finished at a time of 56.06, and Spears posted a time of 59.14.

400 Yard IM- In the 400 Yard IM, the Grizzlies again collected the win. Victor Lebsock was able to collect the win for the Grizzlies as he posted a final time of 4:41.30. It was a consistent race throughout for Lebsock as his splits throughout the race stayed consistent. 

400 Yard Free Relay- In the 400 Yard Free Relay, all three Adams State teams finished in the top 3. The Adams State A team, composed of Dillon Brown, Victor Lebsock, Quintin Cummings, and Kenny Rupp, took first place with a final time of 3:22.14. They were followed by the Adams State B team, which is composed of Michael Eckley, Finn McFarland, Jess Baker, and Devin Walters finished in second place with a final time of 3.29.46. Finishing in third place with the Adams State C team, which is composed of Duncan Cumby, Quenten Madrid, Eric Branco, and Keenan Johnson, with a final time of 3:35.21.

 

Looking Forward

Coming up next for the Grizzlies is Day 2 of the duel against Colorado School of Mines. The Grizzlies will look to take some more individual and team events tomorrow to bounce back to get the win for both the Men and Women. The meet will again be in Golden, Colorado, as the Orediggers host the Grizzlies.
