Grand Junction, Colo. – Adams State closed out the final day of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship with five individual finalists and four relay teams, capping the week with a strong showing across the board.
The Grizzlies finished the championship with 111 team points on the women's side and 194.5 points on the men's side.
Ryley Martinez, the RMAC Summit Award winner announced Friday, qualified for the finals in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.36. She later clocked 54.49 in finals to finish 23rd overall.
Elanor Schafer and Kennedy Larson added team points in the 1,650-yard freestyle, finishing 22nd and 24th, respectively. Schafer touched the wall in 19:24.71, while Larson followed in 19:46.96.
The Grizzlies excelled in the 200-yard backstroke, placing three swimmers in the top 15 in finals. Kenny Rupp led the charge with a seventh-place finish in 1:54.42. Devin Walters placed 10th in 1:52.96, while Ben Brewer finished 13th in 1:58.13.
Victor Lebsock added a 16th-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke finals, touching in 2:16.04.
On the relay side, the Grizzlies' women's A 400-yard freestyle relay placed ninth in 3:43.31. The quartet of Martinez, Brenna Otteman, Ashlyn Popham and Jocelyn Jones combined for the top-10 finish. The women's B relay was disqualified after the third swimmer left early.
On the men's side, the A 400-yard freestyle relay team of Rupp, Dillon Brown, Quintin Cummings and Landon Brewer placed sixth in 3:07.48.
The Grizzlies' B relay team of Ben Brewer, Lebsock, Zane Spears and Michael Eckley finished 14th in 3:19.86.
Adams State competed well throughout the 91-event championship, closing the season on a high note with depth, determination and a strong team finish.
