GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Adams State University swim team wrapped up the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championships on Saturday, with the women's team securing 9th place with 156 points and the men's team finishing 6th with 157 points.
On Friday, the women's 200-yard freestyle relay had an outstanding performance, placing 7th with a time of 1:42.84. The relay team—Ryley Martinez, Brenna Otteman, Anjali Friedman, and Jocelyn Jones—shaved four seconds off their seed time, earning 28 points for the Grizzlies.
The men's 200-yard freestyle relay also delivered a strong showing, with Mohamed Abujiba, George Lutkenhaus, Dillon Brown, and Brayden Stalcup finishing 6th in 1:27.73.
In the women's 100-yard backstroke finals, Martinez (1:01.61), Danielle Aquino (1:07.81), and Otteman (1:08.74) took 21st, 23rd, and 24th place, respectively. On the men's side, Devin Walters (54.21), Ben Brewer (54.68), and Connor Matthews (57.79) finished 14th, 15th, and 16th.
The Grizzlies kept their momentum going in the 100-yard breaststroke finals, where Emily Markle (1:08.05), Friedman (1:09.31), and Brianna Uhrig (1:11.29) placed 19th, 21st, and 22nd. Abujiba represented Adams State in the men's 100-yard breaststroke, finishing 12th with a time of 57.79.
On Saturday, the final session began with Kenedy Larson finishing 22nd in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 19:57.93. Jenna Lang and Sammi Buttermore took 27th and 28th with times of 21:16.35 and 22:19.66, respectively.
In the 200 backstroke finals, Markle, Friedman, and Uhrig finished 18th, 20th, and 21st with times of 2:28.99, 2:29.51, and 2:34.29. Abujiba claimed 15th place with a time of 2:10.91.
The men's 400 free relay closed out the championship, with the men's A relay—Abujiba, Brown, Lutkenhaus, and Stalcup—securing 6th place.
"Our Grizzly swimmers had an incredible championship meet this week in Grand Junction," said Head Coach Melinda Hunzeker. "We walked away with a new team record in the men's 800 freestyle relay, and every swimmer posted season or personal best times. Their hard work and dedication paid off, and I'm extremely proud of how they performed and carried themselves throughout the meet."
The Grizzlies concluded their season at the RMAC Championships.
